EVERYTHING About Greece – Kos Island – Kos
Kos Island, I started my tour of Kos Island as it was called in the Ottoman period by passing through Rhodes Island. Spent the last 3 days of my 1-week Greek islands tour in Kos. This was a place where I admired the use of bicycles on the island, got lost in the presence of their villages, and felt at home with the large Turkish population.. In this article, I told you everything about Kos Island such as what I did in Greece Kos Island, where I went, which beaches I saw, how I found its history, etc.. Fill your teas, Our Kos Trip is starting.
But first, I leave you with my Kos Island VLOG. When you watch my video first and then read my articles, you will see everything about Kos.. Even don’t forget to follow my Youtube channel.
1. Where is Kos?
Actually, Kos, or Kos Island, is right next to us, just like in many Greek Islands.. This island is actually an Aegean island located opposite Bodrum.. It is located in 12 Islands.
Let me be clear: The number of Kos Turks living on the island is much higher than other Greek islands.. That’s why you feel like you are in Turkey.
Also, in the Dodecanese Islands, Rhodes and Kos are the most preferred destinations for holidays from Turkey.. When you go to the island, don’t be surprised if you see more Turkish citizens than Greek citizens.
If you are planning to go to the Greek Islands, be sure to check all my articles from the Greece link first.
2. How to Get to Kos Island?
Now, sir, I actually visited 3 different islands on this trip.. My route
- Rhodes
- Simi Island
- Island of Kos (Kos) was.
Greek Islands are the first priority during my holiday I crossed from Fethiye to Rhodes with a gate visa. And I stayed there for 4 days. Be sure to check out the details at Rhodes Island. All my suggestions and plans are written in that article.
While staying in Rhodes, I also went to Symi Island for a day.. And I described all my experiences in my Simi Island travel articles. Be sure to read it.
I have listed the places where you can stay for 10-20 dollars per person on the island at This Link.
Other Before moving on to the topics, let’s look at how to get to Kos Island and from where to reach the island.
Greek Islands Visa :
To the Greek Islands you must have your passport first, then your Schengen Visa or gate visa. Since we passed from Rhodes to Kos, we solved the visa process in Rhodes.
What is Schengen Visa and How to Get It You can read the details in my article.
But if you are going to transit directly from Turkey to Kos, passport + Schengen Visa or Greece Gate Visa is required.
- What is a gate visa? It is a procedure that Greece applies to Turks, Belarusians and Ukrainians and is valid for a maximum of 7 days. , Samos, Lesbos
- After crossing these islands from Turkey, you can go to other Greek islands without a visa.
- If you prefer to get a door visa, the costs are 60 Euros.. It’s a door visa thing, don’t worry it’s quite a simple process. Even :
Make sure to read my article Greece Gate Visa by clicking on the blue link.. I explained every single detail one by one.
Reaching Kos Island by Ferry :
I went to Kos from Rhodes Island. But believe me, going from Bodrum to Kos is both cheaper and takes less time.. Here is:
- From Turkey: Bodrum – 22 Euro (20 minutes), Turgutreis – 25 Euro (30 minutes)
- From the Greek Islands: Rhodes – 34 Euros (130 minutes), Santorini 47 Euros (270 minutes), Nisyros, Kalymnos, Syros, Leros.
Reaching Kos Island by Plane :
There is no direct flight to Kos from Turkey. You can only pass through Athens, the capital of Greece, to Kos International Airport.
Transportation in Kos Island :
The situation I admired on the island was that everyone was using a bicycle. When I witnessed this in most countries I went to, I once again said, “Why not in our own country!” I couldn’t help saying it.
Kos has officially broken new ground on cycling. There are places to rent bicycles all over the island.. If I count the transportation possibilities within the island:
- Bus
- Bike, Buggy, Atv, Scooter
- Car rental
- Mini Train
- Sea Transportation
- Taxi
As Kos is a flat island, it is very comfortable in transportation. There are many possibilities already.. You can choose what you want according to your destination and distance.
But all aside, the bike is completely different.. It’s officially a place like ‘Bike Island’. The bicycle path on the island starts from Faros Beach and goes to the end of Psalidi Beach, exactly 13 kilometers.. There are many more such routes.
If I were to list all the means of transportation on the island:
- Bus: Kos Island is a good enough road have a network. Buses are the busiest, Cleopatras street. You use the blue bus (KTEL) to get around the island and the green (KTEL) bus for long distances.. Tickets from Kos to Zia, Tigaki, Marmari and Pili are 2.10 euros; 3.20 to Mastichari, Airport and Antimachia; 3.50 Euros to Kardemena, 4.80 Euros to Kefalos.
- Mini Train: There are colorful little trains in Kos that tour the island. 7 Euros per person. It gives you a panoramic tour of the island.
- Bike – Buggy – Atv – Scooter: There are Ideal Rentals, 10 minutes from the port. You can find all these means of transport there.. 1 day bike rental 4 Euro, 1 day buggy or ATV rental 40 Euro, 1 day scooter rental 14 Euro. But make sure to bargain, they offer discounts.
- Car Rental: I’ve been to 2 of the island where I stayed for 3 days.. I rented a car to go to distant villages on the day. There is a shop called Stamatis across the Dolphin Square near the port.. They reduced 1 day from 30 Euros to 25 Euros. Cars are bad but you can manage for 1 day. But do you know what I recommend to you: First of all, read my Car Rental Abroad article to the end.. In fact, check the daily rental car prices at link. Before you go, rent your car online from that site.. You will be very comfortable.
- Sea Transportation: There are boats that you can take daily tours along the harbor.. Most boats cost 35 Euros per day. Barbecue, unlimited wine and fruit treats. There are 20 people on the boat. They go to beautiful beaches.
- Taxi: You pay 3 Euros per kilometer on Kos Island. Even if you don’t go 1 kilometer, the starting fee is 3 Euros.
By the way, before you go to the island, let me say this: It can be very crowded in summer.. Therefore, make sure to book your hotels online before you go.
I have listed the places where you can stay for 10-20 dollars per person on the island at This Link.. You can check the most suitable hotels by clicking on that link.
3. Kos Island Food and Drink: What to Eat in Kos ?
Let’s come to my favorite part. I say ‘I love’ because I am happy when I eat seafood to the fullest in the countries I visit.. Kos Island is one of them.
There are many seafood restaurants here, run by Turks and Greeks.. They do their job well too.. Especially the restaurants along Averof Street and the seaside right next to it are very good.
Prices are 20% better than Rhodes even though it is by the sea. If I were to list the restaurants and cafes I recommend below one by one:
Caravelle Restaurant
The atmosphere of the restaurant on the seafront next to Averof Street was very good.. We had dinner here the first night we went, and frankly, the prices surprised us after Rhodes.
The interest was also very good.. Octopus 10 Euros, Grilled Calamari 11 Euros, Saganaki (a cheese special to Greece) 4 Euros, Ouzo (Greek raki) 8 Euros, Meats between 10-20 Euros, Fish usually 15 Euros.
Alberto Restaurant
Alberto is located at the level of the Caravelle we went to on the first day.. Garlic bread is very very good price is also 2,5 Euro. Greek Salad 6 Euro, Grilled Calamari 11, Ouzo 8 Euro. Staff of the restaurant were polite and friendly. Recommended.
Nick The Fisherman
They praised this restaurant on Averof Street, but it was out of luck when we went.. Let me know if you go, I swear I’ll keep it in my mind.
Zia Watermill Cafe
Here is 2. It is located at the entrance of Zia Village, where we rent a car for the day.. Good place, nice view. You enjoy your meal by seeing both green and blue.
We ordered mussels and Bolognese pasta.. both were great. Bolognese 6 Euro, Mussels 9 Euro, Beer 3.5 Euro, Greek Salad 5.40, Calamari 9.90, Grilled Chicken 6.90, Baklava 2.90 Euro.
Maistrali Restaurant
Again 2. We sat in Maistrali in Kefalos Village at one end of the island we came to.. We drank Frappe because we weren’t hungry. It’s a quality place with a nice view.
Avlogyros Grill House
The first day we went, we saw a doner kebab shop in the famous Eleftherias Square, close to the port, and sat down immediately.. It looked good at first because we were hungry, but I can’t say definitely eat it, because it tastes normal.. The price of doner with bread rolls is 4.5 Euros, Coke is 2 Euros.
Special
I would like to recommend you an ice cream shop with a guaranteed explosion of flavors.. There are different types of ice cream. After Dolphin Square, enter the first street across from the boats and walk a little, and you’ll see them.
I love the varieties with yogurt and mastic.. 1 ball is 1.70 Euros, but the portions are so big that 2 balls are too much.
4. Places to Visit in Kos Island
Places to visit on Kos Island do not end in numbers.. When it comes to beaches, historical squares, villages, at least 2-3 day plans can be made.. At this point, this time 2. I leave you alone with my Kos Video. I say watch my video below and then plan places to visit in Istambul.
As you can see on the map below, important parts of Kos attractions are usually in the center.. You can reach all of them on foot.
You can also choose the mini trains that I mentioned in the transportation section above, the price of which is 7 Euros per person.. Tours important places on the island. You can take a train tour first and then walk in more detail.
My advice is to visit the central places on the first day.. You can rent a car like us and see the far spots of the island.
Places To Visit In Kos Island Inner City
- Tree of Hippocrates
- Gazi Hasan Pasha Mosque
- Knights Castle (Neratzia Castle)
- Eleftherias Square
- Detferdar Mosque (Mosques of Kos)
- Kos Archaeological Museum
- Kos Market Hall (Dimotiki Agora – Municipal Market)
- Church of Agia Paraskevi
- Roman Odeon Of Kos (Roman Odeon)
- Asclepion
- Asclepion
- strong>
I have set a route for you to make your job easier. First we go to the places in the center. Our first stop is the famous Tree of Hippocrates, which has become the symbol of the island…
Tree of Hippocrates
When I say Kos Island, I wanted to see the Hippocrates Tree as soon as I went.. Because 5 BC. It is said that Hippocrates, who lived in the 19th century, planted this tree and taught his students under its shade.
<
So is this possible? of course not. Because the tree is already 500 years old. It is impossible to survive from such a long time ago.. It’s not that big of a tree anyway.. It is a tree with a circumference of 12 meters and its inside is empty.
I think such a story may have emerged in order to keep tourism alive and to keep Hippocrates alive.
Gazi Hasan Pasha Mosque
Gazi Hasan Pasha Mosque, one of the most powerful works remaining from the four centuries of Ottoman rule, is right next to the Hippocrates Tree.
The mosque was built in 1786 by the Ottoman Governor of that time, Algerian Gazi Hasan Pasha.. The architecture of the three-storey mosque is very strong, but it has been badly damaged during the wars.
It was being repaired when we went, they had closed it down.. The mosque was normally closed anyway, but at least the shops on the ground floor were used.. We couldn’t see them either.
Knights Castle (Neratzia Castle)
Luckily, most of the places we wanted to visit in Kos were either closed or were under repair.. Unfortunately, we couldn’t see the inside of the Knights Castle, either.
Because it was damaged in the recent earthquake.. That’s why they closed visits to the interior. You can just walk around it.
Castle , 15. century St.. It was built by the Knights of St. John with the ruins of ancient stones and structures.. The aim, of course, is to be protected from the Ottomans.
Eleftherias Square
Let’s come to the most central point of the island.. When you head towards the market from where the Hippocrates Tree is, the road already reveals you.
In Eleftherias Square, which is surrounded by cafes, banks, restaurants, museums and shops selling touristic goods, the Defterdar Mosque, Municipality Market and Archeology I have described below. It also has a museum.
If you come to the island, you will definitely go to this square.. My advice is that you don’t forget to take a photo with the bougainvillea that opens your heart on the historical city gate.
Detferdar Mosque (Mosques of Kos)
Deterdar Mosque in Eleftherias Square draws my attention the most. pulled. Because the mosque does not have a minaret.. The reason was the earthquake in 2017.. Unfortunately, both the minaret was destroyed and the mosque became unusable.
The mosque was built in 1724 by Defterdar İbrahim Efendi. 2, which are normally open for worship together with the mosque in Platani Village.. It used to be a mosque, but it can’t be used now due to damage.
Kos Archeology Museum
This is a museum that you can visit without leaving Eleftherias Square.. It is located next to the Municipal Market.
Did we visit? of course not again. It was closed as we were on a Monday.. But I searched for you.
So that the museum has a rich collection of artifacts from Roman and Greek civilizations.. Sculptures and mosaics are exhibited on the ground floor and courtyard of the two-floor museum.
You can also see the marble statue of Hippocrates in this museum.
- Visit. Hours: 08:00 – 20:00 (closed on Monday)
- Entry Fee: 6 Euros
Kos Market Hall
There is a shopping point in Kos where you can find everything together. It is also the Municipal Market in Eleftherias Square.. There is everything from fruit and vegetables to souvenirs inside.
The market has a different atmosphere because it is built inside a historical building.. But its exterior is slightly damaged in the earthquake of 2017.
If I talk about the prices of the market; Apples start from 2.5 Euros per kilo, tomatoes and potatoes from 1 Euros, and packaged spices from 1.5 Euros.
By the way, the tomato of Kos Island famous. Tourists, who hear this, buy bags of tomatoes from the market and wander around the streets.
If you ask me, it is definitely not a substitute for village tomatoes in Turkey.. Am I right ?
Agia Paraskevi Church
As soon as you exit the Kos Market Hall, you can see the beige-blue Agia Paraskevi Church on your right. The exterior of this building was damaged in the earthquake, but it still has a simple and eye-catching structure.
The church dedicated to St. Paraskive, one of the most beloved saints of Greece, covers a large area.
This Greek Orthodox Church is very full, especially on religious holidays.. People from all over the island flocked to commemorate the saint.
We couldn’t see inside when we went, unfortunately it was closed. For your information, the interior of the church has a rich interior decoration.. If you go, stop by.
Roman Odeon Of Kos
You can reach the ancient theater, which is a 10-minute walk from the port, by passing through lush trees, the entrance is free.
Roman Odeon, 2. century by the Romans. Many historical artifacts excavated from the region are exhibited in the Kos Archaeological Museum.. In fact, the most important artifact unearthed from here is the Statue of Hippocrates.
Still, it didn’t impress me that much.. If you’ve visited the ancient cities in the Mediterranean and Aegean, you wouldn’t be surprised at the people here.
Ancient cities, especially on Kos Island, are very scattered.. You can see historical cities even on the side of the road while walking, but it cannot be said that there is no stone on stone in them either.. Most of them are in ruins.
Asclepion
Let’s come to the most important archaeological site of Kos.. As you can see on the map above, Asklepion is a little far from the center, about 4 kilometers away.
As it is located on a hill in the east of the island, its view is very beautiful.
Asclepion is where healers treated their patients in ancient times. and a place where the art of healing was taught. It was also the temple of the gods who were interested in medicine.
The ancient building now consists of 3 terraces.. One consists of sick quarters and waiting rooms, the other consists of temples and restored columns. The last terrace includes the remains of the great temple.
Entrance fees:
- Adult: 8 Euros
- Student: 4 Euro (Student card is valid in Turkey.)
Kos Island Villages
Villages in Kos Island and i wanted to cover the beaches separately. Because after visiting the city, you need to rent a car to go to the far parts of the island.. For this reason, its route is different from the center.
There are about 10 villages on the island.. All of them have different features. I marked the most preferred ones on the map, and explained them one by one below.
- The more developed villages with a large tourist population; Kardamena, Marmari and Tigaki.
- The island with its vitality. villages considered central; Zia, Asfendiou and Lagouidi. (Asfendiou is both close to the city and untouched by its naturalness)
- The villages where you can witness more of the traditional life of Greece; Mastichari, Antimachia and Pyli.
- The island’s largest villages; Kefalos and Antimachia.
As you can see on the map, there are many beaches on the island. I separated the villages and the beaches in my own way and explained them one by one below.
- Platani (Stretching)
- Zia
- Asfendiou
- Antimachia
- Kefalos
- Lambi Beach
- Psalidi Beach
- Peters Beach
- Marmari Beach
- Mastichari Beach
- Agios Stefanos Beach
Platani (Stretching)
The 2nd of our Kos trip. We decided to rent a car on the day and visit the remote areas.. I explained where and how much we bought the car above.
I wanted to start from this village first because it is 3 kilometers from the center.. Besides, Platini is a Turkish village.. One of the 2 mosques used on the island is located in the village.
Most of the Turks on Kos Island live in Platani Village.. Don’t expect it to be exactly like a Turkish Village, because it looks more like a small Greek quarter.
You can dine at Arab’s Place in the village square.. We did not eat because we were not hungry, but it was highly recommended.. I think you should try it while you’re here.
Zia
2. Our stop is the charming little village of Zia, located 15 kilometers southeast of the island.. This place seems so peaceful to me.. I don’t know, maybe the raindrops falling on the lush nature of the village made me feel peaceful.
We were unlucky to take photos and videos because the weather was a bit cloudy, but watching that beautiful view on the slopes of Dikeos Mountain with the calmness after the rain was something else.
Of course it’s such a beautiful place. when it became a touristic village. Many restaurants and taverns available. Especially the street on the left at the entrance of the village is full of souvenir shops.
Again, when you go up the stairs from the entrance, you see the small Zia Orthodox Church at the top.
Convenient hotels in Kos To view : Click
There is a place called Sunset Balcony next to the church. We couldn’t sit but the view looked amazing, highly recommend. Opposite facing Kalymnos. You can see the shores of Asia Minor are also clouding over the horizon.
As you descend again, you will see the Zia Watermill Cafe.. They are already so colorful that it is impossible not to see it.
<
His garden is so cute, even so lively that you wonder where to look. By the way, its lemonade is famous, keep in mind.
One of the most beautiful sunset views on Kos Island is being watched in this village.. If you come to Kos, I say enjoy the view, lemonade and greenery in Zia Village.
Asfendiou
Asfendiou is close to a remarkable village like Zia, tourists also visit this place. Visiting. You can already watch Asfendiou from Zia.
The village was built on the skirts of Dikeos Mountain.. The Church of Assomati Taxiarhes, built in the 19th century, is worth seeing. You can also see the remains of the Early Christian Basilica of Aghios Pavlos, just outside the village.
You can also climb the Aghios Ilias Church, which is located on the top of Dikeos Mountain.. Of course, the exit is quite difficult, let me tell you that.
The village, which is green on all four sides, used to make a living from tourism for the last 30 years, while it was dealing with olive cultivation in the past.
Antimachia
Antimachia, Kos is located 24 kilometers from the center, very close to Kos International Airport.
While dealing with agriculture and animal husbandry like other villages, they have rightfully turned to tourism in recent years.
Places you can visit in the village: 19. The “Traditional House” representing the life in the 19th century, the old traditional Windmill, which has become the symbol of the village, the Venetian Castle of Antimachia, which offers a magnificent view, the 8th century right next to the castle.. Agis Paraskevi and 16. Church of Agios Nikolaos.
Apart from all these, Antimachia Village; Famous for its hospitable people, dance tradition and passion for music.
If you want to watch and participate in the art exhibited by the local people, you can attend the festivities held on 30 June.
Kefalos
Kefalos is located at one end of the island. So this is the farthest village from the center.. If you want to listen, definitely come to Kefalos. Because there is an abandoned silence here.
Preserving the traditions in the village is like a mainstay.. It’s a must see spot with its narrow streets close to each other, traditional houses where you can explore their lifestyles, and archaeological ruins.
The main point of Kefalos is that it has long beaches and a beautiful sea, most of which are blue flagged.. In this sense, the village is actually divided into 2 parts.
While encountering a traditional formation in the interior of Kefalos, a more modern area awaits tourists in the seaside resort of Kamari. .
Also, along the coast and inland of the port; cafes, restaurants, bars, beach clubs and hotels available. That’s why it has ceased to be a virgin area.
Kos Island Beaches
After talking about Kos Island villages, I would like to talk about some of the beaches I marked on the map above for you.. Let’s start with the ones that are close to the center first.
Lambi Beach
A public beach that is 7-8 minutes walking distance from the center.. Sunbeds and umbrellas are free if you eat or drink.. It’s a clean, long beach, and it’s possible to do water sports.
Psalidi Beach
You can easily reach the beach by taxi, car or public bus.. A decent, family-friendly beach. If you eat and drink something, you do not pay for sunbeds and umbrellas. Plays good ambient music. It has a stony sea, but the water is very clear.
Peters Beach
A beach close to the center is on the bike path.. There are nice restaurants in the back.. We witnessed a very beautiful sunset here.. It’s officially red apocalypse everywhere. If you go, I say watch a sunset here.
Marmari Beach
Located in the northern part of the island. You can reach by bus. It has a long, wide and sandy beach. There are some pebbles in the sea, but it goes away when you go a little further.. Suitable for windsurfing.
Mastichari Beach
This place is also in the north of the island.. It has an exotic feel. Nice to have clean and white sand. It’s windy but you can feel the warmth of the air, it doesn’t bother you. There are many taverns and cafes.. You can also buy souvenirs from its side streets.
Agios Stefanos Beach
This is one of the beaches farthest from the island.. You can reach the center of Kos in 45 minutes for 4.5 Euros.. Two sunbeds and umbrella 8 Euro. You can buy food and drink from the mobile minibus. No other place. So it’s more natural. There were people who swam to the island near the bay.. There is a church on the island, but I recommend you to wear sea shoes if you swim.
5. Kos Island Nightlife
We were able to experience Kos nightlife for only 1 day. The island has a lively and fun bar street.. There are venues mainly on the streets of Nafklirou and Plateia Blessa, which are close to the port.. That’s the Street of Bars.
At the same time, Kardamena Village is highly preferred in terms of nightlife.. Of course, we preferred the street of bars close to the port.. Because it was closer to our hotel.
A few of the places close to the port:
- West Bar: The farthest place of Bar Street in the centre. This is the famous place.. Entertainment continues until 5 am on weekdays and 6 am on weekends.. Has a crazy young audience. Cocktails vary between 8-10 Euros.
- Hammam Bar: They turned the Ottoman bath of years into a bar with a stylish decoration.. A quality place where you can sip your drink with live music in the open air. You can also experience the DJ performances inside after midnight.
- H2O Cafe Restaurant Bar: If you are looking for an elite venue, the H20 Bar, within walking distance of the port, is just for you.. You can have a nice meal and spend a nice night while enjoying the view of Bodrum by the sea.
A few of the places in Kardamena far from the center:
- Crossroads Bar Kardamena Kos: Affordable prices, nice atmosphere. DJ playing songs on demand. Its hookah and frozen cocktails are very popular.
- The Bands: A place for rock music lovers. Prices are reasonable, music is fun, cocktails are delicious.
- Downtown Club: A fun club, entertainment continues until 4 in the morning.
If you’re staying in the Harbor District, go to Pub Street and enter where you like the music.. If you don’t like it, go elsewhere.. You don’t need to sit in most places anyway.. You go to dance standing up and have fun.
Of course, there are quieter places to sit, like a few places I suggested above… It all depends on your taste and mood.
6. How Many Days to Visit Kos Island?
There is no need for such long days to visit Kos Island. It will be enough for you to stay 3 days like us.. On the first day, you will visit the historical spots in the center of the island and discover beautiful places.
2. You can rent a car for the day and visit the remote villages of the island.. At night, you can have fun in the Bar Street in the center or in the places in Kardamena Village.
3. You can enjoy the beautiful beaches close to the port during the day.. Already 3. day after day starts to come more. If you leave it to your taste, Kos holiday will be very enjoyable for you.
7. Where to Stay on Kos Island & Kos Hotel Suggestions
In an island where the first means of transportation is a bicycle, it is more preferable to walk everywhere or to use a bicycle.
You can easily walk in the shade of the trees on Kos Island. You can explore the beaches and get lost in its alleys.
Therefore, a hotel that is within walking distance of everywhere is of course easier for you.. We stayed at the Kosta Palace City Hotel just across the ferry port.. It was an old hotel, but we could easily reach everywhere.
I have listed the places where you can stay on the island for 10-20 dollars per person.
You can review all the most economical hotels in Kos from link below . But I have reserved good, medium and affordable hotels below for you one by one.. Since some of the hotels are on promotion, their prices may vary on different dates.

Ouzo’s Birthplace Plomari, Mytilene
Greece‘s greenest island Lesbos owes its green nature to water resources. Lesbos, the third largest island of the country, has lush forests, water springs, tiny canyons, endemic plants and incredible mountain views.
The island’s second largest city, Plomari, is and places that manage to stay away from the negative effects of urbanization due to its geographical location.. When you say the second largest city of the island, Plomari is not a city-like place.. The size that we can call the largest town or seaside resort in Turkey.. With its scattering mountain villages, the population of 7 thousand finds it difficult.
Plomari Square
With its pristine beaches, historical wooden houses, small taverns, plane and olive trees, coffee houses and views, Plomari journey is one of the best options to get away from it all.. No matter how crowded and active the center of Lesbos is, Plomari experiences the opposite.
The birthplace of Barbaros
As Captain-i Derya, the first captain of the Ottoman Empire Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha, who was the pasha and the great admiral, was born in Plomari in 1473.. Although there is no trace of Barbaros in Plomari, this name is very important for the history of the seafaring town.
Akrasi, Ampeliko, Megalohori, Neohori, Paleohori, which is known as Plomaritohoria on the south coast of Lesbos The town, consisting of the villages of Plagia, Trigonas, has a strategic location.. Dominating Chios in Greece and Karaburun in Izmir, the town has a deep-rooted trade tradition.
Beautiful photos can be taken in the side streets of Plomari
The place where ouzo and olive oil soap were first produced
strong>
Within the Greek islands, 19. Turning into one of the most important centers of industry, commerce, production and maritime trade in the mid-century, Plomari is also the place where the Greek national drink ouzo was first produced.. Today, just like raki, the quality of ouzo is measured by the water used.. Since Plomari has the best quality drinking water sources in the geography of Greece, the aroma it adds to ouzo is noticed everywhere.. There is no production today, except for a few ouzo workshops.. Plomari, with its beaches and cultural tourism, is a region where European, American and Turkish tourists spend more time in high season.. Since it is not very well known, the region, which is not crowded and uncomplicated, is ideal for those who want to relax and have a peaceful holiday. Ouzo, which he throws, is consumed in a similar way in coffee houses today.. Drinks thrown together while playing backgammon or chatting with friends accompany the pleasant conversation.. Unlike Turkey, the coffeehouse culture in Greece also includes the offering of liquor.
ouzos produced in Plomari
Because of the ouzo production, it is between Lesbos and Plomari. there is serious competition. What makes the cute town one step ahead of this competition is the quality water source and the qualified anise grown in the region with aromatic plants.. It is possible to count Pitsiladi, Yannaçi, Varvayani and Plomari/Isidoro Arvaniti among the ouzos that have become brands in the town.
Things to do in Plomari
The so-called ‘old town’ in the center of the town, which is one of the oldest settlements on the island, is where you can witness typical Greek architecture.. Two-story, bay window, mostly wooden houses line the narrow streets.. It is essential to enjoy walking among the historical houses on quiet and calm streets without traffic noise and to breathe the atmosphere of the town.
There are many shops, shops and coffee houses around the big plane tree in the city square.. After wandering the streets, it is quite enjoyable to relax, have a drink and chat with the local people.
The beaches, each carrying the blue flag, which are chirpy in the summer season, are an unforgettable experience for those who love sea, sand and sun holidays.. Agios Isidoros Beach is shown among the few beaches not only in the region but also in Greece.
Oceanis Cafe
Make sure to try frappe, one of the cold drinks consumed by the Greeks.. Iced coffee, which is prepared by adding milk and sugar according to preference, is available in cafes and coffee houses in every corner of the town.. One of my suggestions is the Oceanis Cafe, where we sit to drink frappe with its stylish design.. Souffle is around 3€, waffle is around 4€, frappe is around 2€, Turkish (Greek) coffee is around 1.5€.. When you sit in all restaurants and cafes, a large glass of water is offered free of charge.. Get immersed in life by sitting in the cafes that stretch towards the beach and the port.
There are 3 different museums in the town that appeal to enthusiasts. Varvayianni Ouzo Museum, Lomari Isidoros Arvanitis Ouzo Museum and Soap Museum are must-sees to see the most important production tools for this town.. The hospitality and warm welcome at the museums make people happy.
Where to stay in Plomari
There are nearly 25 accommodation options in the charming town.. Among these places that can be preferred according to the budget and accommodation concept, there is also a hostel, a luxury studio.. So before you go, decide exactly what kind of place you want to stay.. I stayed at Frini Studios on my trip to Plomari. There is a special 10 percent discount for Keşfetsek at the property that got full marks from me for its hospitality and approach.. Check out my Frini Studios post for discount details and a closer look at the facility.
The Mytilene-Plomari Road
How to get to Plomari
<
Plomari is 42 km from the center of the island of Lesvos.. Due to the nature of the road, this journey takes approximately 50 minutes by private vehicle.. In order to go to this town from Turkey, it is necessary to take a ferry from Ayvalık to Lesbos.. After the ferry ride that takes 1 hour and 15 minutes, the port of Lesbos is reached.. There is a municipal bus service between Mytilene and Plomari that runs 3-4 times a day.. However, without the hassle of the city bus, choose a pleasant journey by renting a car and being included in the nature view.
Plomari with its unspoiled nature, friendly people, historical structures, magnificent beaches, ouzo, olive oil and soap >, one of the most beautiful corners of Lesbos. Those planning a trip to Mytilene should spend a few days in this beautiful town.

Nepal Arrival
After our tiring and intense trip to India, we got out of the chaos and arrived in Nepal, where we said “oh there is a world”. We had a comfortable journey to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, with a 55-minute flight from Varanasi.. Nepal is 3 hours 20 minutes ahead of Turkey and 15 minutes ahead of India.
From Victoria Subirano’s book named A teacher in Kathmandu so that you can get an idea before you come to Nepal. you can watch the movie “A Mirror in the Sky” which he freely inspired. It is the film that reveals how the education system in Nepal works, poverty and mysticism.
Kathmandu is located in the valley at the confluence of the Vishnumati and Bagmati rivers.. There are dozens of temples hidden between its streets.. While it is difficult to breathe from the exhaust fumes in its narrow streets, it is certain that you will discover many things in the company of colorful shops, peddlers, bookshops and local people.
A blend of 2 religions, It is very possible to see that Buddhism and Hinduism coexist in the country where it is intertwined, and this unity is reflected even in objects and temples.. Whether Buddhist or Hindu, everyone can easily perform their daily rituals according to their religious beliefs.. There are enough temples in the city. Someone who goes to work or wanders around the streets completes his prayer by ringing the bell in the tiny temple on the street and applying the red paint inside the temple to his forehead.. A person who has prayed has red paint on his forehead. When you see this, know that that person has prayed. Let’s not forget that the main element of flower worship. During the worship we witnessed in temples, they offer flowers to their gods and light candles.
We were surprised that the fruits we ate did not taste salty, although agriculture is the livelihood of the country.. Especially when we say that the banana is disgusting that we have not eaten in our life, we say it’s like straw, we ate a banana that tasted just like that.. We got our Nepal visa quickly and very easily at the airport for 25 USD (15 days). They came to meet us because our hotel had a pick-up service.. We arrived at our hotel without the need to take a taxi.
We wrote the details and places we visited in separate sections to be more descriptive.
But first, let’s list the must-haves and some information you need to know for those who are considering coming to Nepal:
Take a mask. Too much air pollution in the city. If you don’t want to walk in dust and smoke, take your mask.
Bring walking shoes. The roads are very bad and dusty.. If you don’t want your nails to get dirty, wear sneakers.
Those who come to Nepal by plane should get a free map from the airport.. The map you will get from the hotels is not very descriptive and guiding.
Visit the bookstores in the Thamel area. There is a wide variety of books, magazines and many products for anyone interested in books, not just travelers.
Buy LP-Nepal. If not, you can find it in Thamel.. But those who do not want to buy definitely need a guide in the temple areas.. But for me, the temples and the figures carved on the temple do not mean anything, if you only want to take pictures of them, you do not even need a guide.. They charge up to 100 rs from tourists, don’t give more than 25 rs. For your information! Locals don’t like discounts in Kathmandu.
. If you are going to shop, know that they sell you exponentially more expensive.
Although not everywhere, 25% tax is charged in many restaurants and cafes.
Have dinner at Northfield Restaurant in the Thamel area.. There will be a pleasant dinner next to a cozy wood fire accompanied by Nepali music.
Entrance fee to all Durbar squares.
Kathmandu Durbar Square : 750 rs.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square : 1100 rs.
Patan Durbar Square : 500 rs.
Eat jujudhav yogurt in Bhaktapur. We should have paid 25 rs for 3 yogurts, but because we are tourists we paid 150 rs
Eat Daal Bhaat. It’s like Indian Thali.
Eat Momo. A dish resembling a tibetan dumpling. Vegetable, buffalo meat, chicken options are available. A little spicy and bitter.
During the time we were in Kathmandu, we made kora in Buddhist temples, translated mantras and sent our wishes to the universe in the fastest way, we worshiped according to God in Hindu temples :), We photographed the most beautiful examples of Newari architecture, followed closely the funerals of the cremated dead in accordance with Hinduism, practiced their rituals, respectively, Svayambhu Mahachaitya (Monkey Temple) temple, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Bhaktapur, Changu Narayan Temple, Kathmandu and Patan Durbar Squares. Gdansk Travel Notes: Better Than Poland!
There are some places that I came across somewhere and noted down and I couldn’t wait to go… Here is such a special route for me in Gdansk
I have been on my master’s degree for almost a year. Since I live in Brescia, Italy, I plan to visit various cities in Europe in combination.. I chose Gdansk first and said I’d go to Norway from here, to Alesund…
Gdansk Overview / Famous “Pencil Houses” of the City
My Plane Could Not Land in Gdansk
Here come the time, I went to Alesund and even got on the plane to Gdansk on the way back!
Oh what a plane ride…
While getting on I knew there was 55 km/h wind in Gdansk but I guessed it would be okay. But we couldn’t land on our first try, it passed, the plane was rocking like a cradle!
I Shared Those Moments We Couldn’t Land in Gdansk on Instagram @gorkemliyollarcom
An airstrip I was on for the first time in my life he had to pass, luckily the pilot managed to land in Gdansk on our second attempt…
It wasn’t a very good start, but I’m welcome Poland
Trying to go to Gdansk Glowny <
Finally Gdansk!
If the plane landed so hard, you should also think below, it’s as if I don’t come from the Norwegian fjords but went there, it’s so cold, wind, rain all together…
Since I got off at 10 pm anyway, I’m in trouble to go to my hostel and sleep You can actually reach the center directly from Gdansk Walesa airport by bus. But the buses after 11 o’clock leave at a different station called Wrzeszcz, and from there you reach the central Gdansk Glowny train station by commuter train.
That’s exactly how I got to the city and my hostel, but thanks to the Polish, who helped me while I was waiting for the bus. Thanks to a college couple…
Hello Gdansk / My First View in the City / Going to a Hostel
About Gdansk
Good morning from Gdanks!
This is Poland’ A city located on the Baltic Sea in the north of. Actually I visited all the Baltic countries and I loved it very much, but they said to Gdansk that this is Poland, you are not exactly Baltic
I mean this is Poland but Gdansk I think It’s even more beautiful than Poland…
Morning Hours / Walking By Motlawa
I’ve visited the capital Warsaw before, but now Gdansk is getting me pretty excited, let’s see what we’ll see…
Since my hostel is located at the northern end of the city, I also start walking from the riverside towards the center.
Yes, Gdansk is a typical Baltic city… I say that this city also has islands, rivers and plenty of water
strong>
Too Much Wind, But Not Without a Selfie
The Spirit of Gdansk: Motlawa River
Our River is Motlawa!
If I follow the Motlawa river, Gdansk’ It means I can almost completely tour the city. Because the city consists of this city and the small islands it surrounds.
First of all, when I come across a beautiful Gdansk text, she says OK. um I’m in the right place…
I Love Those City Names You Must See Me To Understand The Wind…
The Famous Cute Pencil Houses of Gdansk
The first thing I want to tell you in Gdansk is actually Houses that make up the unique architecture of this city.
In fact, although you can see similar ones in other cities of Germany and Poland in general, the ones here are more characteristic.. Thin and long, crooked, colorful houses like pencils!
Famous Pencil Houses of Gdansk / I Found This Name If I Found It In The Sun From The Tip, A Selfie Immediately…
And to the bottom aren’t they built?
Sweetly narrowing the top floors…
I admit that I saw the aerial view of these house-filled streets and fell in love with Gdansk and I thought I should see it. . Yes, maybe I won’t be able to see it from the air, but I’ll still see it.
“The top floors, which narrow down sweetly…”
There Could Be A Modern Building Without Destroying The City!
But here it is one thing to visit and see another photo of it.. The photos did not have modern siblings of these typical Gdansk houses either!
Yes, as a civil engineer, I noticed the modern buildings in Gdansk from the very first minute. Because the modern structures here are “we are modern” They don’t smirk They went and built with a nice modern interpretation of architecture similar to their old brothers.
I can’t say I’m not impressed with this work, Gdansk can still be visited after 50 years…
Modern Gdansk Houses I Like Very Much, There Are Some More Futuristic As Well… These Also Provided a Nice Transition / Modern-Old
Is Crane One Of The Attractions In Gdansk?
Now by the riverside While walking on the promenade called “Deptak Nadwodny”, I see one of the first things that come to mind when I think of places to visit in Gdansk.
What is that Crane?
Interesting place in Gdansk Crane The River And The Crane Look Better Here
Yes “Crane” is one of the interesting structures in Gdansk. This used to be a crane building used to load ships. If I said old, of course.. century is quite old The original state is destroyed, but the current one is worth seeing.
There is the Black Pearl of the pirates of the caribbean a little further ahead, there are nice photos, try it here…
Black Pearl is also here <
Like the Harry Potter Scene: Mariacka Street!
I’m diving down the river into Mariacka Street now
Mariacka at first sight became my favorite place in this city!
I feel like I’m on the street where I’m going to choose a wand for Hogwarts. “Hagrid, where do we get the wand?”
Can it be without a photo Mariacka Street
In Gdansk, you can feel an interestingly slightly British air; mysterious buildings painted in a depressing style, staircases in front of houses small courtyards and magnificent artistic details…
These small courtyard houses on Mariacka Street are boutique shops! Local products, gifts or jewellery, whatever you are looking for. All meticulously furnished with excellent details, this place can be studied for a few hours.
Magnets Here from the Map Detailed Shops in Mariacka Are So Sweet
Across the river side of the street, the huge St.. Mary’s Church…
Undoubtedly, it is one of the most magnificent buildings in the city, you can go inside and have a look at it.. Mary’s Church Is Also Visible
The Rain Follows Me
Just at that moment I’m being caught in the rain!
If it rains, I have a solution; raincoat and my umbrella…
Now it’s time where the heart of Gdansk beats; Long Sunday!
Long Sunday With Shaking Rain
Long Sunday
Long Sunday ie Długi Targ is a classic Polish style market-square. I don’t know why these guys built such thin and long squares, but it happened
As the name suggests, this is a long market area. If I said market, it means small peddlers and generally the shops lined up along the square, better if I say square…
Long Market / Długi Targ
You can see the most beautiful of the typical cute pencil houses of Gdansk that I mentioned in the Long Market.. The ones here are a little more historical and have wonderful decorations.
Also, I think the most eye-catching structure of the square is Gdansk Town Hall.
Gdansk Town Hall with its golden inlaid tower and legendary beauty. The clock may be the most magnificent structure in this city!
The Long Market and the Magnificent Gdansk Town Hall
Gdansk, the City of Gates
My market is at one end of the street, the Golden Gate is at the riverside end there is also the Green Door…
I forgot to mention; Gdansk is the city of gates
You can often see these gates in the old city centre.. It is generally built like 2-3 storey private buildings and has arch-shaped openings from the inside and you enter and exit the square and the street from there.. Especially the Golden Gate is another beautiful one, don’t miss it…
I’ll be visiting soon The Golden Gate / The surprise is gone! The Sun Is Clearly Opening The Gates of Gdansk: This Green Gate by the River
Is it a Rainbow?
And these gates are rain shields for me! Because I’m stuck at the door leading to the river from Long Market, it’s raining heavily
But a few minutes later, “the sun?”
If there’s rain and sun, let the rainbow come !
My Rain Shield Behind the Green Door I Watch Gdansk with Rain and Sun; Delicious!
Things suddenly turn upside down in Gdansk, it’s sunny now
The weather in the city has really changed with the sun and rainbow. Those depressing houses have turned into bright spring colors, now It’s time to wander the streets and take photos a lot.
The Rainbow Has Arrived Can I Pass Such An Unforgettable Moment Without A Photograph? This Is The Back Side
Gdansk’s Islands
I set foot on one of Gdansk’s islands from the Green Bridge in front of the Green Gate. I say island, but it is a part of the city I say so only because rivers run on both sides.
This is also a very touristic area, but it is under construction for now, that catches my attention the most. lots of mobile sweet sellers I see around. Poland’s sugary pastry desserts are in vain, definitely try it!
Here’s the Island for You Just Kidding The River Divides A Wonderful Street I Discovered, Find It “Poland’s Candy Sweets pastry desserts of all kinds”
“The cafes of this city are very nice”
I want to have a snack and rest now. Şso that I can have a little view so that I can both fill my stomach and watch the city
Eat a great boutique pancake shop called “Pan Kejk” on the Long Market I came. There is everything to eat and drink here, and you won’t believe the prices. I got a great sandwich, salad and unlimited coffee for only 15-20 zloty.
I Need to Have a Rest and Eat Something / “Pakejk” Gdansk
Time to enjoy sunny Gdansk. I pass the Golden Gate at the upper end of the Long Market and open to the modern part of the city.
There is a triumphal arch-like gate and another historical building behind the Golden Gate.. You have now reached the wide streets of Gdansk here.
Gdansk Became Another Beautiful When The Sun Comes Out The Golden Gate I Just Mentioned Gdansk Houses Also Shine Differently!
A Little Out of the City, The Environment Is Different
There is a huge modern shopping mall right across the street. It is also possible to see socialist-style buildings when you go to a little bit further in the city. Gdansk dates back to different historical periods. It is a city that has witnessed it too.
I am now finishing my sightseeing in Gdansk.. You might think that this city is an atmospheric place anyway, and all its streets and avenues are special in general, so I say go everywhere
The Other Side of the Golden Gate and the Starting Point of the Modern City, The Shopping Center Just Opposite the Long Market , Trams and Wide Streets A Little Beyond the Shrin You Can See These Types of Buildings Now Some Gdansk Travel Tips!
