Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur only, but also want to add the country’s beautiful islands, cities and important attractions to your route, where to start your country tour, what season you visit Malaysia in and your budget is pretty good. One of the most important issues.

When I was running a hostel in Kuala Lumpur for about 4 years, the first thing I recommend to backpackers called “Backpacker” was “Set Your Route Well”.

Malaysia It is a very easy country to visit.. However, if you choose the wrong routes, you may have to endure bus journeys of up to 10 hours.

If you want a simple, ordinary and short travel route recommendation in Malaysia, you are thinking of going north, Kuala Lumpur , Cameron Highlands, Taman Negara (Woodland, requires solid walking. If you’re a smoker, pass here) Penang, Langkawi.

This itinerary is a 1 week 10 day route. Of course, I can mention Perhentian Island (the cheapest place where you can get Open Water and Advanced diving certificates) and Sabah, KK (Kota Kinabalu) for those who want to see an orangutan and have more time in Malaysia.

If If you want to go to Singapore after Kuala Lumpur and see somewhere in between, you can do KL, Melaka and Singapore, or you can follow the route above and fly from Langkawi to Singapore for 20-30£.

Let’s come to our list of places to visit in Malaysia;

1.Kuala Lumpur

Of course, it would be very logical to start the trip with KL.. If you are not crossing from Singapore to Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur is the capital, most populous and most modern city of Malaysia.. It is a multicultural city. But the people you can see on the streets, in restaurants, cafes and many more are usually “Indians”.

When I first went to Kuala Lumpur in late 2014, you couldn’t really feel the Indians on the streets.. However, this city has been exposed to an incredible amount of Indian traffic after 2015.. That is to say, Malaysia, which opened the door to millions of unemployed in India, accepted hundreds of thousands of Indians into the country.. The reason is simple ”Cheap Worker”.

However, these Indian brotherhoods, which made Kuala Lumpur a completely different place, so to speak, made India, have made the city and tourists miserable (Although it is not correct to generalize). It is a good idea to be careful in the nightclubs of Kuala Lumpur, where you can see 50 Indians around a girl, who do not go out of nightclubs, and go to the most luxurious nightclubs you can choose.

Kuala Lumpur is a must-see city in Malaysia.. But I would not recommend staying in this city for more than 2 days.. Also for nightlife, Kuala Lumpur may not be the city you’re looking for.. Which bar or nightclub you go to is very, very important in this city.

Kuala Lumpur is famous for the Petronas Twin Tower and Batu Caves.. Every tourist who comes to the city sees these 2 places. However, there are 5 places in Kuala Lumpur that should not be missed in my opinion.. These are ; Petronas, Batu Caves, Heli Lounge Bar (It offers a unique city view from the Rooftop bar), Sky Bar (the ideal place for Light show) and finally KL Tower (Menara Kl Tower) is the observation place of the tower.

Of course, what you can see in the city is not limited to these.. If you have time in Kuala Lumpur, “Putrajaya”, another administrative center you can go in 40 minutes, is one of the places you can love with its beautiful historical and architectural structures. With its temple and unique view, it is one of the places I can recommend to those who have enough time in this city.

2.Cameron Highlands

This place I strongly recommend to travelers coming to the hostel is “Highland”, not “Island”.. Let me tell you why I made such a statement right away.. After 4-5 people in total came back to our hostel in Kuala Lumpur and said, “Oh, I thought it was Island, I couldn’t see the sea, I was weird”, then we started to sing over “Highlands”.

Of course, it was an unprepared one. If you are going on a tour of Malaysia, your English is poor and you have not done research, Highlands may sound like Island.. So, remember that this is Highland, not an island, but a hill.

Cameron Highland is a mountainous region with a long tradition of tea.. Although famous for its beautiful postcard photo, its most interesting place is “Mossy Forest”. Considered one of the oldest forests in the world, Mossy Forest is one of the must-see places in Cameron.

If you want to see only one place, don’t miss “BOH Tea Plantation”. Go to his cafe and drink freshly picked tea from the garden by paying a small fee.. You can also buy all kinds of tea from its small store.. But be aware that our Black Sea teas can’t spill water on their hands.

RECOMMENDATIONS

How to Travel in the Cameron Highlands; First of all, if you are not an expert on motorcycles. , DO NOT HIRE motorcycles here. Why ? because Cameron’s locals think he’s Brian O’Conner from ‘Fast and Furios’ and have no idea what kind of vehicle they’re driving.. Especially the mountainous area where the Tea Plantation is located is the only road and when you turn the corners, you see the opposite.. This can be a serious problem.

As someone who has been to Cameron Highlands many times (I tried the motorcycle only once), I can say that you can visit this place with the best tours.. Take 6-7 person tours in old-style Jeeps. These tours are divided into “Half Day” and “Full Day”. Although the half-day tour is sufficient, if you have time, join the full-day tours (Lunch is included in the tour fee).

Finally, take a jacket with you.. Cameron Highlands, one of the coldest and rainiest places in Malaysia. You will especially freeze from the ”Mossy Forest”.

NOTE : Can Cameron Highlands be visited on foot? what i heard what i saw. The traveler who can dare needs at least 1 week. Of course, if you want to see 1-2 places is enough, you can see a few places by walking.. But I guess there is no need for an action like seeing the important places on foot.

Buy online bus tickets from Kuala Lumpur to Cameron Highlands or any island, city, Singapore in Malaysia and go to ”EASYBOOK.COM” Do not use any site other than. I can recommend Unititi Express as a bus company recommendation for Cameron.. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best and most trouble-free among them.

3.George Town – Penang

George Town, the capital of Penang. So both are the same thing. Don’t be confused.

Although much of the area is famous for being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Penang is also famous for its food and parties.

”Malaysia’s food capital George Town, also known as ”, is one of the places where you can find the best street food in Malaysia.

Here you can find beautiful places to see.. But the places I can recommend you not to miss are the port area, the beach and the street art.. George Town is an Instagram phenomenon with its street art.. So, navigate the streets in detail. Finally, don’t forget to climb the hill called Penang Hill.. This is one of the places with the best view in Penang.

ADVICE ;

Don’t stay in a party hostel in George Town. Never stay at Tipsy Tiger. There’s a lot of burglary here, zero security, super loud and a place where you don’t want to see the end of the night. But you can go here just to join the party.. You don’t want to stay here at the end of the night.

4.Taman Negara

One of the places where I was forcibly taken twice. I never wanted. ‘Cause this is where a 1-2 pack-a-day smokers like me burst their lungs. All slopes/stairs. get out daddy. it never ends. When we first went, I sat on the stairs and waited for 2 hours for friends to return.. I do not exaggerate. Stairs here are not for everyone.

Taman Negara, ”Wildlife” is also famous for its wildlife environment. Especially if you join the 5-6 hour tours called “Deep Jungle”, you can see the wildlife and you can have a wonderful “Trekking”.

Taman Negara, a protected area where 130 million years old deciduous rain forest lives, places where those who love nature, greenery and walking can faint and wake up.. In addition to its magnificent natural beauty, it is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Malaysia with its points with a unique view.. A hiking trail that I gave up halfway through. It’s high, grueling, and long.

The park is home to a number of endangered species, including the Malayan tiger and Malayan peacock-pheasant.. So you can’t see these animals everywhere.

ADVICE ; Do not visit Taman Negara without tours. It has a marvelous marking system. But you will surely get lost on the way back. In addition, you can travel in a much more motivated way with tours.. And you don’t have to worry about where you’re going.

NOTE : There is a place in Taman Negara where you can only get water at the entrance.. Drink lots of water, it won’t be too cold, but still get raincoat style jackets, and lastly, if you’re a smoker, drink plenty before entering the park.. Smoking is prohibited in the park

5.Langkawi

Have you ever been to a “Duty Free” island and drank cheap beers until the morning and sunbathed on the beaches?

Unlikely to do this until we come to Malaysia. Langkawi is my favorite place among the Malaysian islands, and it’s a gorgeous island that I think you’ll love.

While Langkawi is famous for being home to three Geoforest parks and numerous coconut tree lined beaches, it’s actually Kuala Lumpur. It is a place where tourists, who rebel against the price of liquor, stay for about 1 week.

You can find beautiful beaches here and it has a climate that can be visited most of the year.

Here, at an altitude of 660 meters above sea level. Don’t forget to cross the 125 meters long Langkawi Sky Bridge, which is a pedestrian walkway, take the cable car and go to Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls.

If the beer costs Rm 20 in Kuala Lumpur, here Rm 4. If you are good with alcohol, definitely stop by any market.

ADVICE ; Here you can find a few places to dive. However, if you are planning to dive, I highly recommend going to ”Perhentian Island” or ”Borneo”.

6.Malacca – Melaka strong>

Although it is called Malacca, I would never have recommended this city, which many tourists know as Melaka, until 4-5 years ago. Or I used to think that they would only go with day tours.

But after a 2-day trip to Melaka in 2019, my whole opinion changed.. Melaka is a splendidly developed small city from 2014 to 2019.

Created through colonial rule by Portugal, the Netherlands, and later the British, the city was once a powerful commercial center on the edge of the Malay Peninsula.

One of the best things to do here is to take a long walk along the canal.. These canal edges, where mosquitoes used to roam, are in much better condition.. Of course there are still mosquitoes. But not as much as before.

You can take unique landscape photos along the canal.. You can sit and eat at the cafes or restaurants right next to the canals, see the night market, and browse the museums.. Melaka is one of Malaysia’s fastest growing cities in terms of tourism.. As someone who has seen this in person, I would definitely add this small city to your list.

7.Perhentian Islands

Perhentian Islands consist of two parts.. One is Perhentian Kecil (Small One) and the other is Perhentian Besar (Big Island).. But this area is expensive and mostly preferred by romantic couples and honeymooners.

The small island is also very popular with young travelers.. That’s why staying on the small island is both much cheaper and much more fun.. If you don’t know where to stay on the small island for hostel and hotel, just be close to “Long Beach”. Among the hotels, hostels and other accommodation units that are 1 km or less from this beach, it will be enough to choose the one that suits your budget and taste.

There is a lot to talk about and tell about the Perhentian Islands.. But if you are visiting this island, at least get your “Open Water” diving license for around RM 1,200 (4 days accommodation and breakfast included). Perhentian is the place where you can get the cheapest diving courses both in Malaysia and Thailand. a place you can love. Add Perhentian, one of the most beautiful islands in Malaysia, to your list.

How to Get to Perhentian Islands from Kuala Lumpur? ; As I mentioned above, you enter easybook.com. You type KL – Kuala Besut JETTY in the search field. Kuala Besut is where you can reach the island by fast boats.. Unfortunately, there is no direct bus to the island Buses depart from TBS Bus Terminal.. The journey is 7 hours and there is 1 stopover.

After arriving in Kuala Besut, you can get your ticket from the tour companies here.. Same price, don’t worry. Then you can reach the island with these fast boats.

NOTE : The thing you need to pay attention to here is that if you want to go to the big island, remember that you will get on different boats.. If you don’t have money in your pocket, if you are not planning a wonderful romantic vacation, you skip the Big Island, go to the small island and tell the captain you want to go to “Long Beach”.. This much. Considering that you have also arranged your hotel or hostel near Long Beach, everything is ok.

NOTE – 2 : Perhentian Islands are closed between November and February. So you cannot go to the island between these months.. Also, I would say don’t go to the island in October and March.. It can be super rainy.

8th Tioman Island

One of Malaysia’s most beautiful and smallest islands, Tioman is often less crowded than Langkawi. Although it is preferred, I can say that there is no limit to the places to see and touristic activities to do here.

One of the islands you can see in the south, that is, after Melaka or first in Singapore.

Mersing Marine Park’ This island, which is a part of Turkey, also has a Duty Free place like Langkawi.. So you can stock up on everything here.

Tioman is one of the cheapest islands in Malaysia, just like Langkawi.. It is an island that I think you will love with its beautiful beaches and natural scenery, as well as its magnificent Malay food.

NOTE : To go to Tioman, you must first go to Mersing.. You can also buy your tickets online at easybook.com and take these buses from TBS Bus Terminal to Mersing and from there to Tioman.

9.Kuching

Having become one of Malaysia’s most famous destinations in recent years, Kuching is located in Borneo and the 200-year-old city is the capital of the state of Sarawak.. It is known as one of the places that survived the British colonialism.

Places such as Bako National Park and Semenggoh orangutan reserve are among the most famous places in Kuching and I would definitely recommend adding it to your list.

10.Kota Kinabalu

Kona Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, is one of the most famous places in Borneo.

Kota Kinabalu has tropical islands, rainforest, wildlife It is one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the country due to its proximity to refuges, national parks and Mount Kinabalu, Malaysia’s highest peak. ”s or locally known as ”KK”. This is ”KK” which is short for Kota Kinabalu, not ”KK” which is a market like “7/11”.

If you want to get a little away from the city, Tunku Abdul Rahman Park is for snorkeling, diving and swimming. It has five small islands, which are ideal, and it is one of the places that I can recommend every tourist going to Kota Kinabalu to take a look at.
