Angkor Wat Travel Notes: A Forgotten History in Cambodia

Published

on

Hello everyone, today at Görkemliyollar I will tell you about one of the most important historical and religious points of the world.. I’m here with my Angkor Wat travel notes near Siem Reap, Cambodia !

Angkor Wat is important enough to be a symbol of a country and shed light on civilization. Today, unlike my other travel notes, I studied a lot of history! I intend to prepare a unique Angkor Wat guide for you by adding historical information to my experiences in Angkor City and adding my identity as a civil engineer, of course. along with my adventure.

Angkor Wat Temple Overview

How to Get to Angkor Wat?

First of all, let’s agree on how to reach the ancient city of Angkor Wat. To reach Angkor, you must come to Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Siem Reap is the most important touristic city of the country, located in the west of Cambodia.. It is a bit difficult to get here from from our country. You can find out how to reach Cambodia and my general impressions in this country from my Siem Reap travel notes. Journey to Angkor today !

From Siem Reap to Angkor Wat

How to Get Angkor Wat from Siem Reap

03 May A few more hours In Siem Reap, which I reached earlier, after leaving my belongings at the hostel, it was time to head towards the Angkor Temples.. But I couldn’t find much information on the internet about how to get to Angkor Wat, and most of what happened is not clear !

It’s over… I go to one of the tuk-tuks waiting right in front of the hostel and say hello

strong> !

He starts talking about Angkor Wat and talks about various Angkor tours and prices.. At first, we talked like tour companies as the environment warms up, real options started to emerge.

Moving on to Angkor Wat with My Tuk-Tuk

Angkor Wat Tuk-Tuk Tours

<

Tuk-tuks to Ankor City have two main routes. The first is a short tour covering Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm.. This route can usually be completed in 1 day and the offer I received is $25.

There is also a long tour for those who want to see more temples and historical monuments in Angkor Wat.. Besides the short tour above, this tour includes Preah Khan, Neak Pean, Ta Som and East Baray temples. Those who want to join the Long Angkor Tour usually complete this route in 2 days.. On this route, we shake hands with Samboo, who opened the first offer at $50, and then we shake hands at $37!

With my agreement, Samboo took me to these seven main temples in Angkor Wat for two days. will take you to and around places. I have to be a little rich today I’m renting by myself. However, you can pay a single fee in groups of 2 or 3 people.

Transportation Options to Angkor Wat

So, from Siem Reap to Angkor Wat Are tuk-tuk tours the only way to reach? of course not. On this route, you can rent a bicycle and motorcycle and even have the option of hitchhiking.

You can rent a bicycle for 3-5 dollars per day, and a motorcycle for 15-30 dollars, and you can go anywhere you want.. I have a small warning for those who are thinking of renting a bike!

The weather in Cambodia is really so hot and humid that even walking a few kilometers in the sun is suffocating.. You will climb, descend and run on top of these temples so that you can enjoy it! Those who rent bikes must be in great condition.

One of Angkor Wat Roads and Tuk-Tuks

Apart from all these, your chance to hitchhike neither is there. Takaki’s plan, whom I met at the airport, was to offer people he saw among the temples to go to a stop to go together for free!

Those with more time and adventure seekers can try, but I have two in this geography. I have a day and I want to give my energy completely to Angkor Temples.

We are on the road with Samboo! I asked him to take us to a market first, I don’t know what to eat, drink or find in Angkor, where I will stay all day.

I went to a convenience store in Siem Reap and bought 2 bottles of 1.5 liters of water and snack crackers. Of course, I didn’t forget Samboo either

The First Pond I Came across on my way to Angkor City

Angkor Wat Entrance Fees

Then we arrive at our last stop before Angkor. We are at Cambodia’s Angkor Tourism Office on the road connecting the city to the airport.. I will buy Angkor Wat tickets from here.

You must buy a ticket to visit Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat entrance prices; $3 for 1 day, $62 for 3 days, and $72 for 7 days. ( also up to date for 2019)

I buy the 3-day one, the amount I paid is 62 dollars. Even though I think it’s too high, would it be a little spoiled to be told Cambodia’s only tourism income?

These tickets give you unlimited entry and exit opportunities from the day you buy them.. I must remind you that we need to have cash dollars with you when buying the ticket! No credit cards here, no refunds.. They also put your photo on the tickets so that they are not shared.. On the bright side, you get a great souvenir ticket.

Information About Angkor Wat

Now, giving you general information about Angkor Wat, I will give you a historical tour of this place. i will introduce. You need to know these to interpret my trip!

Angkor Wat, with its gigantic dimensions, is the largest ancient city you can ever see in the world. In more than 30 years, Khmer King II. It was built by Suryavarman in honor of Vishnu, the Hindu god of protection.. Angkor City, which was completed in 1145, continued to have new architectural details after this time.

The name Angkor Wat is a combination of the Khmer words “angkor” meaning “city” and “wat” meaning “temple”.. Besides temples, the city has various structures such as bridges, galleries and stairs.. What makes these structures unique to Angkor is the religious motifs in the stone engravings and the Khmer Architecture.

Angkor Wat General View and Animal Figures

Angkor Wat is one of the rare ancient cities whose ruins have survived to the present day with little destruction.. The biggest reason for this is that Angkor has remained in tropical forests for centuries

There are various legends about how long the city waits to be explored, after the Khmer Kingdom, which moved its capital to Phnom Penh, left this city. Although it is a subject, it was Henri Mouhot’s trip here and the notes he wrote that made it popular.

19. After Mouhot, who is accepted to have discovered Angkor in the century B.C., for nearly a century the city of Angkor was cleared of lush tropical plants and vines and brought to light..

Angkor Wat, which was also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992, has become a popular destination that all travelers want to explore today.. Also, the flag symbol of Cambodia, where it is located!

Angkor Temple

First Impressions from Angkor City

It’s time to explore ancient cities and temples, No travelers to Angkor Wat!

We are heading towards the city on the southern road connecting Angkor to Siem Reap. As we move forward, I remember traveling to a different world with the trees surrounding us.

This road is quite crowded and busy, there is a tuk-tuk almost everywhere around me.. On the way that starts as a pleasant nature trip, I arrive at Angkor after seeing a large water pool.

My First View at Angkor Temple

Angkor Temple

My first stop is Angkor Temple, after which the city is named.. This is the first place that comes to mind when Angkor Wat is mentioned, and it is the largest temple complex in the city. I am sure you will remember it from the photos you saw before you came.

I am a little fascinated as soon as I see this view! Right in front of me in all its glory. This is the first time I see this type of architecture with the naked eye. To enter Angkor Wat, you must take the long and narrow path that you can cross the water pool surrounding the temple.

The Outer Walls of Angkor Temple

As you walk through this passage, there is a pond on both sides and a huge building growing in front of you! The stonework here is legendary indeed. In fact, it would be wrong to describe it directly as a stone.. Sandstone was used in Angkor, unlike the brick or laterite, which was frequently seen at the time it was built. This feature is the most distinctive difference of the Khmer Architecture symbolized by Angkor.

We also have guests at the parade next to me helicopter bugs, they are huge. You say tens, I say hundreds.. I’m so determined to reach the temple that I’m speeding through them!

Elements of Buddhism Inside the Angkor Temple

I’ve finally entered the Angkor Temple! It’s like an open air museum. These historical walls, which cover all four sides, are accompanied by precious embroidery and various Buddhism items brought later.

You can visit any place you want in these temples.. It is so big that it can take hours to visit the Angkor Temple, even for us Turks. As you know, we have the world’s fastest museum tour record

Angkor Temple’s Back View

Angkor Wat Motifs

The reliefs and motifs inside the temples will immediately attract your attention.. In Angkor, these usually portray guardian angels.

Besides, it is possible to see fairy figures believed to come from heaven on the walls.. In each of these figures fairies have a different facial expression. These walls have a lot to tell you in Angkor!

With Angkor’s Wall Motifs

There are lots of little shops right next to Angkor Temple. Here you can find all kinds of souvenirs and local products you can think of. It is also a pleasure to watch the temple through the reeds and trees.

Now I find Samboo! While visiting Angkor City, tuk-tuks drop you off at the temple and take a rest.. They usually stop at a coastal corner, already describing where to stop when descending. I soon find my tuk-tuk and set off.

Details Around Angkor Temple

Angkor’s Regular City Plan

As I head north, Angkor City’s magnificent urbanization catches my attention.. This is an extreme city with a regular city plan.. The roads, bridges and entrances between the temples are positioned so well and in harmony with each other that…

As if someone gave a coordinate and planned it and hundreds of mapping engineers worked, this is of course an application! I never get into his project, it actually competes with today’s engineering examples !

Shops By Angkor Temple

Bayon Temple

Now I am at Bayon, the special temple of this city, which is my second stop.. As you enter Bayon, you pass through a temple-compatible bridge and gate called Angkor Thom. When you walk under this door, you can think of yourself as a few centuries back.

Although it is not well known under the name Angkor Wat, I think Bayon is the most beautiful temple in the city.. Bayon Temple is another dazzling sight with its rich decorations and figures.

Bayon Temple

You can get excited when you see Bayon right in front of you.. Do you see dozens of faces staring at you? I feel like a celebrity, I’m on a stage and hundreds of Khmer people are watching me!

There are 37 towers in total in this temple and a face figure in each.. The most striking thing is that these figures are not copies of each other.. As noon approaches, I continue to explore Bayon.. I will go up to the top of this temple.

From the Top of Bayon Temple

Angkor Wat Stairs

The heat, tiredness, humidity… It’s not like it’s going to hinder me at all, Even if I’m red or wet, I keep on exploring. When you’re at the top of Bayon, it’s like I’m the king of this place!

You have to use the famous stairs of this city when you go to the top of the temple. Even the stairs in Angkor are different.. These stairs also got their share from Angkor’s harmonious order.. They usually reach up to the very top, on all four sides of the temples.

Bayon’s Steep Stairs

The stairs are so steep, be careful! It wouldn’t be hard for you to slip and fall, I don’t know who will save you. Perhaps what makes the atmosphere even more realistic is The completely real world of Angkor Wat. While you are wandering here, you can either fall or you can be prey to exotic poisonous creatures

I also come across a restoration work on top of Bayon, should I do my internship in Angkor Wat? ?

Work in Progress in Bayon

What to Eat in Angkor Wat ?

Back to my tuk-tuk. Samboo is a little hungry He takes me to a food establishment near the temple. This is a village-style restaurant community built for those visiting Angkor City. In fact, I had filled my stomach with my snacks

Meanwhile, Samboo ordered a meal for himself and started to fill his stomach, and I accompanied him with a cold drink.. Actually, I was ignorant about whether I should pay the bill At the end of the meal, I realized that these restaurants were serving tuk-tuk’ers who brought customers to them!

Beautiful Butterfly Landed on My Feet in Bayon

Tuk- Cambodia from the Eyes of Tuk’çu

Even though I didn’t eat much, at least I had enough of my Samboo, and we had a pleasant chat.. He doesn’t know much about Turkey, he has never heard of Istanbul. He spent his life in Siem Reap. Even though he is 30 years old, he still hasn’t married!

He says he needs money to get married in Cambodia. They wouldn’t give the girl he loves without money! He has never been abroad before.. He hasn’t even been to Thailand, a few hundred kilometers away.. I say why didn’t you go?

With a sincere smile, she says, no money and visa only. While Cambodia presents an image that is enriching with its rising tourism, the people actually cannot benefit much from it, complains to me… What is the percentage of people who can go abroad in our lovely country?

Samboo Will Take Me Somewhere

Ta Prohm Temple

Even though it’s around 2-3 o’clock, we’re on our way. The last place on my route today is Ta Prohm Temple. This temple is the most cinematic of Angkor Wat!

We are deep in the forest on our way to Ta Prohm. There is no trace of the crowded image at the beginning, only forests and historical artifacts in places. It’s like I’m in a movie. Actually, I’m already in a movie!

Temple of Ta Prohm

Yes, this is one of the filming points of Tomb Raider, the movie of Angelina Jolie’s character Lara Croft.. In fact, this movie made the Ta Prohm temple famous.

Ta Prohm is not just a temple. It served as a monastery and university of Angkor City. We know that Khmer was a powerful and advanced civilization at the time Angkor was built.. It was not surprising to see such training points as a result.

The Walls of Ta Prohm Temple

The Battle of the Temples with Nature

Ta Prohm is the most nature-integrated structure of Angkor, compared to the rest of the temples, as well as literally. A huge tree pierced through Ta Prohm in the middle!

It is difficult to interpret this view at first sight. Because it’s incredible, it’s like the war between nature and humanity! Nature reclaimed one by one here, but we humans counterattacked

The Tree That Pierced Ta Prohm

I have visited many ancient cities before, but I have been to the inner city as much as in Ta Prohm. I’ve never been in. While walking inside the temple, there is not a single detail that will remind you of today’s world! It’s like a simulation of centuries ago.. If you bring someone here and play a time travel joke, they might believe it!

In the depths of Ta Prohm, you can also come across Buddhist monks and mini temples. Here Buddhists light candles and pray.

Ta Prohm’s Inner Court

I came here and forgot the time, it’s already afternoon. Actually, although I am enthusiastic about watching the sunset our tour ended 2-3 hours early and I want to experience Siem Reap today too. Leaving this beautiful memory and the remaining temples for tomorrow, I return to the city.

On my first day in Angkor Wat, I completed the short tour I mentioned at the beginning of the article with three beautiful temples.. The places I will visit in Angkor City are not finished yet, I will continue to the remaining places tomorrow. Now it’s time for a pleasant trip, fun and then sleep in Siem Reap !

Angkor Temple and Me / Siem Reap, Cambodia

Sunrise at Angkor Wat

May 04. I wake up to my second day in Cambodia. Actually, according to my plan, I should have witnessed the first light of day at Angkor Wat.. But I had fun with the incredible entertainment life of Siem Reap until the first light!

As you know, the city of Angkor is one of the special places where you can watch the sunrise and sunset.. > The impressive atmosphere I have told you about and the blessings of nature are almost performing a duet here.

To watch the sunrise, tuk-tuks take you to Angkor City at dusk. Walking after the first rays of the sun can also offer you a cooler environment.. Even though I can’t do it, I recommend it to you !

A Sunrise Photo in Ankor Wat I Asked From My Friend In Hostel For You

I don’t feel so sorry that I miss such things sometimes. It’s like an excuse for me to come to Angkor again

The Samboo that I made a contract with at the door of my hostel at 11 o’clock is not around. His friend came to replace him today, he said he had an important job.. No problem for me, Let the second day begin in Angkor!

Today it is more cloudy and light drizzle than yesterday. I’m not complaining at all, the cool weather is a privilege in Cambodia.

Angkor City’s Roads After a Heavy Rain

Preah Khan Temple

Pass by Bayon Temple, which I discovered yesterday, and it’s more we’re heading north. The first temple of the day I will visit here is Preah Khan.

There are not many people here as it is located in the far parts of Angkor. There is a very pleasant bridge at the entrance of Preah Khan.. I mentioned Angkor City’s bridges, but this is the most beautiful one!

The Entrance to Preah Khan Temple and The Bridge I Mentioned

Dozens of hundreds of people lined up on the bridge are watching me. Nearly half of these faces are ruined, but the ones I can select all have different facial expressions. This reminded me of the different looks of the people when the king passed by.

I’m going in.. Preah Khan was the center of various events in Angkor. It is said that this place could accommodate more than 100,000 people in its time. There is a lot of processing inside that you can explore. I even took pictures with a few of them !

With the outer walls surrounding it and the lotus shaped towers that are so often found in Angkor, this temple has a unique feel to it.

Interior of Preah Khan

Water Distribution Network of Angkor Wat

Preah Khan is also a spot symbolizing Angkor’s improved water distribution. Like temple-like temples, there is a pool of water that is built on water and supports on all sides.

These pools and galleries are part of Angkor City’s advanced water distribution network.. This network contains advanced engineering that is not standard even today.

Angkor City’s Ponds and Water Network

Back to my tuk-tuk. Meanwhile, heavy rain begins! The air emptied itself in just a few minutes and gave a more lively view to the surroundings.

We continue on our way, as the rain eases reached Neak Pean.

From Preah Khan Temple

The Magnificent Nature of Angkor Wat

Neak Pean, one of Angkor’s meaningful temples. It is located on an artificial island on a huge lake created in this region. I’m excited to visit, too.

The slender bridge to Neak Pean may be the most beautiful place I’ve ever been on earth. It has an indescribable view.. With reeds and lotus-like plants on the lake, this place is a generous creation of nature.

The Road to Neak Pean

When the light snacking rain’ and my footsteps on the wooden bridge combine, I feel peaceful.. It’s like being reborn on my way to Neak Pean.

After I’ve taken a lot of photos here, I sit and watch a little, I can stay for hours! I was lost in the reflection of the clouds and trees on the lake.

Me in the Magnificent Nature of Angkor Wat / The Bridge to Neak Pean

Neak Pean Temple

Now I name it here I arrived at the little temple that gave. There is a Khmer Architecture building in the middle of a large pool inside the temple.. Khmers believe that the water of this pool heals. This is a kind of hospital of Angkor, but after my previous feelings, is it possible to come here sick? I thought to myself.

<

Small sections all over the main pool represent Water, Fire, Earth and Wind.. In each corner there are figures of Elephant, Bull, Horse and Lion in order.. Combined with the mystical environment of Nek Pean it has become beautiful.

The best part of coming back from Neak Pean is to cross this incredible bridge again! I reset myself again and make my way to my next temple.

Neak Pean Temple

Ta Som Temple

This is Ta Som Temple. one of the relatively small members of Angkor City. When it was first built, it was a tomb surrounded by laterite walls. It was later referred to as a temple.

The temple has an architecture similar to its members in this region.. What sets it apart is the majestic tree rising from the entrance called the gopura. Nature has surrounded Ta Som in a striking way, I can add it to my notes as one of the most different landscapes I have ever seen.

A small temple and Since it is on the road, I recommend you to visit and spend at least half an hour in Ta Som.. The advantage of such small temples is there are fewer people and you can examine the whole more easily. It may take days to interpret the whole in temples such as Angkor Wat and Bayon !

Ta Som Temple with the Tree Rising from the Entrance Gate

East Mebon Temple

My watch is approaching the afternoon and I am moving towards the seventh and last temple on my route; East Mebon.

East Mebon Temple, one of the different members of Angkor. The temple draws attention with its graceful animal sculptures rather than engravings and reliefs.

I’m climbing to the upper floors of East Mebon! Meanwhile, my view is even more beautiful with the sun with a slight angle through the clouds.. Around the temple was the first place where I did not see water in Angkor, but of course it used to be surrounded by water. You can even take a pleasant cruise from the top of the temple to understand the section surrounded by water.

East Mebon Temple

Khmer Architecture and Animal Figures

The tower surrounding East Mebon is a rare Khmer brick made example. It is possible to see traces of modern construction techniques, along with the use of iron plaster that caught my attention, besides sandstone and brick.

From the Top of East Mebon / The Sun Showing Its Face

Mebon The most iconic of the remarkable animal sculptures I mentioned in the three-headed mythological elephant Airavata. In addition, Nandi, the sacred bull of the Hindu god Shiva, is also among the things to be discovered.. It is impossible to miss these statues in East Mebon anyway, because they are too visible!

I have completed my tour in the temple and there are beautiful handmade paintings right outside.. I wish I could pick one up and take it home! But it’s really hard for me to carry her unharmed on my adventurous route.

One of East Mebon’s Famous Elephants

Srah Srang Viewpoint

This is the temples I plan to see in Angkor Wat I have completed the way. Now I’m traveling to a final point; Srah Srang.

Srah Srang is a delightful viewing spot near East Mebon. Located right next to one of the ponds of Angkor City, in this part, you can watch nature views reflected in the lake as well as historical details.. The water was almost like a sheet while I was there.

Srah Srang Viewpoint

Sunset at Angkor Wat

I forgot what time it was at this time! I almost miss the sunset. I’m in my tuk-tuk right now to the east end of Angkor Wat Temple. Watching the sunset from here is a different feeling. Frankly, the photos weren’t very cute as I coincided with a slightly cloudy moment, but the creepiest view of Angkor Wat after dark

I think everyone who comes here should experience this moment! Actually the more famous and beautiful sunrise. Since the temple faces west as the subject of legends, it must be another beautiful thing to watch the sun rising behind it.

As I said at the beginning of the article, I left this moment for my next visit to Angkor Wat.. But I asked my friends at the hostel for a nice photo for this morning, I will share it with you.

Sunset for Me I Shared the Sunrise Photo in the Related Section

Mystery and Legends of Angkor Wat

Speaking of legends, we need to open parenthesis.. Angkor Wat is the subject of many legends and mysteries that are still unexplained.. The most well-known of these is that all temples in Cambodia face east, while Angkor Wat faces west.. Nobody knows the reason for this ! Maybe it’s just so we don’t always watch the sunset

Another legend is the reliefs with unknown faces.. There are many ideas that have been put forward, but no one knows the truth! Besides, we have a Buddha Statue which is said to have been left suddenly in the temple one night Angkor Wat is such a mysterious place that hundreds of legends can emerge.

One of Angkor’s Mysterious Figures

Nine Significance

Nine is one of the mysteries I’ve heard.. Popularly said that 9 is a special number for Angkor City.. For example, Angkor’s famous stairs had a total of 54 steps and their digits add up to 9. Multiply these steps by the ones in the 4th and the numbers add up to 9, or they say that the king built 108 hospitals.. Even though this seems a bit too much for me, nine is also important here.. I am also today 9 in Southeast Asia.. my day

This is how I come to the end of my adventure in Angkor Wat. I couldn’t find an explanatory travelogue before I came, most of which developed spontaneously.

How Many Days to Visit Angkor Wat?

As a result of this I tried to prepare a different Angkor Wat travel guide for you. Places to visit and things to tell in Angkor City are endless. Whatever I write, something will be missing, almost the stone is the historical artifact of this land! In fact, with the technology called Lidar, the stones under the soil can be seismically scanned and it is said that this scan gives positive results from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. i spent two days. I carried this trip to a different place with my previous historical research and engineering perspective.. What I see for me beyond fragments of stone is time travellers and living civilizations !

Me, Crimson Red with the Heat in Angkor Wat / Siem Reap, Cambodia

My Siem Reap Travel Notes

<

I would like everyone in our country to come to this beautiful place, provided that we first explore our own historical artifacts.. This is how I conclude my travel notes on Angkor Wat, Cambodia. I did not mention Cambodia and the city of Siem Reap because I have a separate travel article. In that article, I also shared my general impressions of Cambodia, and I recommend everyone to read it.

I am approaching the end of my Southeast Asia route.. Tomorrow I will cross over to Bangkok by road again, then return to my country.. That’s it for now, stay with love…

Ouzo’s Birthplace Plomari, Mytilene

Published

on

By

Greece‘s greenest island Lesbos owes its green nature to water resources. Lesbos, the third largest island of the country, has lush forests, water springs, tiny canyons, endemic plants and incredible mountain views.

The island’s second largest city, Plomari, is and places that manage to stay away from the negative effects of urbanization due to its geographical location.. When you say the second largest city of the island, Plomari is not a city-like place.. The size that we can call the largest town or seaside resort in Turkey.. With its scattering mountain villages, the population of 7 thousand finds it difficult.

Plomari Square

With its pristine beaches, historical wooden houses, small taverns, plane and olive trees, coffee houses and views, Plomari journey is one of the best options to get away from it all.. No matter how crowded and active the center of Lesbos is, Plomari experiences the opposite.

The birthplace of Barbaros

As Captain-i Derya, the first captain of the Ottoman Empire Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha, who was the pasha and the great admiral, was born in Plomari in 1473.. Although there is no trace of Barbaros in Plomari, this name is very important for the history of the seafaring town.

Akrasi, Ampeliko, Megalohori, Neohori, Paleohori, which is known as Plomaritohoria on the south coast of Lesbos The town, consisting of the villages of Plagia, Trigonas, has a strategic location.. Dominating Chios in Greece and Karaburun in Izmir, the town has a deep-rooted trade tradition.

Beautiful photos can be taken in the side streets of Plomari

The place where ouzo and olive oil soap were first produced

strong>

Within the Greek islands, 19. Turning into one of the most important centers of industry, commerce, production and maritime trade in the mid-century, Plomari is also the place where the Greek national drink ouzo was first produced.. Today, just like raki, the quality of ouzo is measured by the water used.. Since Plomari has the best quality drinking water sources in the geography of Greece, the aroma it adds to ouzo is noticed everywhere.. There is no production today, except for a few ouzo workshops.. Plomari, with its beaches and cultural tourism, is a region where European, American and Turkish tourists spend more time in high season.. Since it is not very well known, the region, which is not crowded and uncomplicated, is ideal for those who want to relax and have a peaceful holiday. Ouzo, which he throws, is consumed in a similar way in coffee houses today.. Drinks thrown together while playing backgammon or chatting with friends accompany the pleasant conversation.. Unlike Turkey, the coffeehouse culture in Greece also includes the offering of liquor.

ouzos produced in Plomari

Because of the ouzo production, it is between Lesbos and Plomari. there is serious competition. What makes the cute town one step ahead of this competition is the quality water source and the qualified anise grown in the region with aromatic plants.. It is possible to count Pitsiladi, Yannaçi, Varvayani and Plomari/Isidoro Arvaniti among the ouzos that have become brands in the town.

Things to do in Plomari

The so-called ‘old town’ in the center of the town, which is one of the oldest settlements on the island, is where you can witness typical Greek architecture.. Two-story, bay window, mostly wooden houses line the narrow streets.. It is essential to enjoy walking among the historical houses on quiet and calm streets without traffic noise and to breathe the atmosphere of the town.

There are many shops, shops and coffee houses around the big plane tree in the city square.. After wandering the streets, it is quite enjoyable to relax, have a drink and chat with the local people.

The beaches, each carrying the blue flag, which are chirpy in the summer season, are an unforgettable experience for those who love sea, sand and sun holidays.. Agios Isidoros Beach is shown among the few beaches not only in the region but also in Greece.

Oceanis Cafe

Make sure to try frappe, one of the cold drinks consumed by the Greeks.. Iced coffee, which is prepared by adding milk and sugar according to preference, is available in cafes and coffee houses in every corner of the town.. One of my suggestions is the Oceanis Cafe, where we sit to drink frappe with its stylish design.. Souffle is around 3€, waffle is around 4€, frappe is around 2€, Turkish (Greek) coffee is around 1.5€.. When you sit in all restaurants and cafes, a large glass of water is offered free of charge.. Get immersed in life by sitting in the cafes that stretch towards the beach and the port.

There are 3 different museums in the town that appeal to enthusiasts. Varvayianni Ouzo Museum, Lomari Isidoros Arvanitis Ouzo Museum and Soap Museum are must-sees to see the most important production tools for this town.. The hospitality and warm welcome at the museums make people happy.

Where to stay in Plomari

There are nearly 25 accommodation options in the charming town.. Among these places that can be preferred according to the budget and accommodation concept, there is also a hostel, a luxury studio.. So before you go, decide exactly what kind of place you want to stay.. I stayed at Frini Studios on my trip to Plomari. There is a special 10 percent discount for Keşfetsek at the property that got full marks from me for its hospitality and approach.. Check out my Frini Studios post for discount details and a closer look at the facility.

The Mytilene-Plomari Road

How to get to Plomari

<

Plomari is 42 km from the center of the island of Lesvos.. Due to the nature of the road, this journey takes approximately 50 minutes by private vehicle.. In order to go to this town from Turkey, it is necessary to take a ferry from Ayvalık to Lesbos.. After the ferry ride that takes 1 hour and 15 minutes, the port of Lesbos is reached.. There is a municipal bus service between Mytilene and Plomari that runs 3-4 times a day.. However, without the hassle of the city bus, choose a pleasant journey by renting a car and being included in the nature view.

Plomari with its unspoiled nature, friendly people, historical structures, magnificent beaches, ouzo, olive oil and soap >, one of the most beautiful corners of Lesbos. Those planning a trip to Mytilene should spend a few days in this beautiful town.

Nepal Arrival

Published

After our tiring and intense trip to India, we got out of the chaos and arrived in Nepal, where we said “oh there is a world”. We had a comfortable journey to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, with a 55-minute flight from Varanasi.. Nepal is 3 hours 20 minutes ahead of Turkey and 15 minutes ahead of India.

From Victoria Subirano’s book named A teacher in Kathmandu so that you can get an idea before you come to Nepal. you can watch the movie “A Mirror in the Sky” which he freely inspired. It is the film that reveals how the education system in Nepal works, poverty and mysticism.

Kathmandu is located in the valley at the confluence of the Vishnumati and Bagmati rivers.. There are dozens of temples hidden between its streets.. While it is difficult to breathe from the exhaust fumes in its narrow streets, it is certain that you will discover many things in the company of colorful shops, peddlers, bookshops and local people.

A blend of 2 religions, It is very possible to see that Buddhism and Hinduism coexist in the country where it is intertwined, and this unity is reflected even in objects and temples.. Whether Buddhist or Hindu, everyone can easily perform their daily rituals according to their religious beliefs.. There are enough temples in the city. Someone who goes to work or wanders around the streets completes his prayer by ringing the bell in the tiny temple on the street and applying the red paint inside the temple to his forehead.. A person who has prayed has red paint on his forehead. When you see this, know that that person has prayed. Let’s not forget that the main element of flower worship. During the worship we witnessed in temples, they offer flowers to their gods and light candles.

We were surprised that the fruits we ate did not taste salty, although agriculture is the livelihood of the country.. Especially when we say that the banana is disgusting that we have not eaten in our life, we say it’s like straw, we ate a banana that tasted just like that.. We got our Nepal visa quickly and very easily at the airport for 25 USD (15 days). They came to meet us because our hotel had a pick-up service.. We arrived at our hotel without the need to take a taxi.

We wrote the details and places we visited in separate sections to be more descriptive.

But first, let’s list the must-haves and some information you need to know for those who are considering coming to Nepal:

Take a mask. Too much air pollution in the city. If you don’t want to walk in dust and smoke, take your mask.
Bring walking shoes. The roads are very bad and dusty.. If you don’t want your nails to get dirty, wear sneakers.
Those who come to Nepal by plane should get a free map from the airport.. The map you will get from the hotels is not very descriptive and guiding.
Visit the bookstores in the Thamel area. There is a wide variety of books, magazines and many products for anyone interested in books, not just travelers.
Buy LP-Nepal. If not, you can find it in Thamel.. But those who do not want to buy definitely need a guide in the temple areas.. But for me, the temples and the figures carved on the temple do not mean anything, if you only want to take pictures of them, you do not even need a guide.. They charge up to 100 rs from tourists, don’t give more than 25 rs. For your information! Locals don’t like discounts in Kathmandu.
. If you are going to shop, know that they sell you exponentially more expensive.
Although not everywhere, 25% tax is charged in many restaurants and cafes.
Have dinner at Northfield Restaurant in the Thamel area.. There will be a pleasant dinner next to a cozy wood fire accompanied by Nepali music.

Entrance fee to all Durbar squares.
Kathmandu Durbar Square : 750 rs.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square : 1100 rs.
Patan Durbar Square : 500 rs.

Eat jujudhav yogurt in Bhaktapur. We should have paid 25 rs for 3 yogurts, but because we are tourists we paid 150 rs

Eat Daal Bhaat. It’s like Indian Thali.

Eat Momo. A dish resembling a tibetan dumpling. Vegetable, buffalo meat, chicken options are available. A little spicy and bitter.

During the time we were in Kathmandu, we made kora in Buddhist temples, translated mantras and sent our wishes to the universe in the fastest way, we worshiped according to God in Hindu temples :), We photographed the most beautiful examples of Newari architecture, followed closely the funerals of the cremated dead in accordance with Hinduism, practiced their rituals, respectively, Svayambhu Mahachaitya (Monkey Temple) temple, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Bhaktapur, Changu Narayan Temple, Kathmandu and Patan Durbar Squares. Gdansk Travel Notes: Better Than Poland!

There are some places that I came across somewhere and noted down and I couldn’t wait to go… Here is such a special route for me in Gdansk

I have been on my master’s degree for almost a year. Since I live in Brescia, Italy, I plan to visit various cities in Europe in combination.. I chose Gdansk first and said I’d go to Norway from here, to Alesund…

Gdansk Overview / Famous “Pencil Houses” of the City

My Plane Could Not Land in Gdansk

Here come the time, I went to Alesund and even got on the plane to Gdansk on the way back!

Oh what a plane ride…

While getting on I knew there was 55 km/h wind in Gdansk but I guessed it would be okay. But we couldn’t land on our first try, it passed, the plane was rocking like a cradle!

I Shared Those Moments We Couldn’t Land in Gdansk on Instagram @gorkemliyollarcom

An airstrip I was on for the first time in my life he had to pass, luckily the pilot managed to land in Gdansk on our second attempt…

It wasn’t a very good start, but I’m welcome Poland

Trying to go to Gdansk Glowny <

Finally Gdansk!

If the plane landed so hard, you should also think below, it’s as if I don’t come from the Norwegian fjords but went there, it’s so cold, wind, rain all together…

Since I got off at 10 pm anyway, I’m in trouble to go to my hostel and sleep You can actually reach the center directly from Gdansk Walesa airport by bus. But the buses after 11 o’clock leave at a different station called Wrzeszcz, and from there you reach the central Gdansk Glowny train station by commuter train.

That’s exactly how I got to the city and my hostel, but thanks to the Polish, who helped me while I was waiting for the bus. Thanks to a college couple…

Hello Gdansk / My First View in the City / Going to a Hostel

About Gdansk

Good morning from Gdanks!

This is Poland’ A city located on the Baltic Sea in the north of. Actually I visited all the Baltic countries and I loved it very much, but they said to Gdansk that this is Poland, you are not exactly Baltic

I mean this is Poland but Gdansk I think It’s even more beautiful than Poland…

Morning Hours / Walking By Motlawa

I’ve visited the capital Warsaw before, but now Gdansk is getting me pretty excited, let’s see what we’ll see…

Since my hostel is located at the northern end of the city, I also start walking from the riverside towards the center.

Yes, Gdansk is a typical Baltic city… I say that this city also has islands, rivers and plenty of water

Too Much Wind, But Not Without a Selfie

The Spirit of Gdansk: Motlawa River

Our River is Motlawa!

If I follow the Motlawa river, Gdansk’ It means I can almost completely tour the city. Because the city consists of this city and the small islands it surrounds.

First of all, when I come across a beautiful Gdansk text, she says OK. um I’m in the right place…

I Love Those City Names You Must See Me To Understand The Wind…

The Famous Cute Pencil Houses of Gdansk

The first thing I want to tell you in Gdansk is actually Houses that make up the unique architecture of this city.

In fact, although you can see similar ones in other cities of Germany and Poland in general, the ones here are more characteristic.. Thin and long, crooked, colorful houses like pencils!

Famous Pencil Houses of Gdansk / I Found This Name If I Found It In The Sun From The Tip, A Selfie Immediately…

And to the bottom aren’t they built?

Sweetly narrowing the top floors…

I admit that I saw the aerial view of these house-filled streets and fell in love with Gdansk and I thought I should see it. . Yes, maybe I won’t be able to see it from the air, but I’ll still see it.

“The top floors, which narrow down sweetly…”

There Could Be A Modern Building Without Destroying The City!

But here it is one thing to visit and see another photo of it.. The photos did not have modern siblings of these typical Gdansk houses either!

Yes, as a civil engineer, I noticed the modern buildings in Gdansk from the very first minute. Because the modern structures here are “we are modern” They don’t smirk They went and built with a nice modern interpretation of architecture similar to their old brothers.

I can’t say I’m not impressed with this work, Gdansk can still be visited after 50 years…

Modern Gdansk Houses I Like Very Much, There Are Some More Futuristic As Well… These Also Provided a Nice Transition / Modern-Old

Is Crane One Of The Attractions In Gdansk?

Now by the riverside While walking on the promenade called “Deptak Nadwodny”, I see one of the first things that come to mind when I think of places to visit in Gdansk.

What is that Crane?

Interesting place in Gdansk Crane The River And The Crane Look Better Here

Yes “Crane” is one of the interesting structures in Gdansk. This used to be a crane building used to load ships. If I said old, of course.. century is quite old The original state is destroyed, but the current one is worth seeing.

There is the Black Pearl of the pirates of the caribbean a little further ahead, there are nice photos, try it here…

Black Pearl is also here <

Like the Harry Potter Scene: Mariacka Street!

I’m diving down the river into Mariacka Street now

Mariacka at first sight became my favorite place in this city!

I feel like I’m on the street where I’m going to choose a wand for Hogwarts. “Hagrid, where do we get the wand?”

Can it be without a photo Mariacka Street

In Gdansk, you can feel an interestingly slightly British air; mysterious buildings painted in a depressing style, staircases in front of houses small courtyards and magnificent artistic details…

These small courtyard houses on Mariacka Street are boutique shops! Local products, gifts or jewellery, whatever you are looking for. All meticulously furnished with excellent details, this place can be studied for a few hours.

Magnets Here from the Map Detailed Shops in Mariacka Are So Sweet

Across the river side of the street, the huge St.. Mary’s Church…

Undoubtedly, it is one of the most magnificent buildings in the city, you can go inside and have a look at it.. Mary’s Church Is Also Visible

The Rain Follows Me

Just at that moment I’m being caught in the rain!

If it rains, I have a solution; raincoat and my umbrella…

Now it’s time where the heart of Gdansk beats; Long Sunday!

Long Sunday With Shaking Rain

Long Sunday

Long Sunday ie Długi Targ is a classic Polish style market-square. I don’t know why these guys built such thin and long squares, but it happened

As the name suggests, this is a long market area. If I said market, it means small peddlers and generally the shops lined up along the square, better if I say square…

Long Market / Długi Targ

You can see the most beautiful of the typical cute pencil houses of Gdansk that I mentioned in the Long Market.. The ones here are a little more historical and have wonderful decorations.

Also, I think the most eye-catching structure of the square is Gdansk Town Hall.

Gdansk Town Hall with its golden inlaid tower and legendary beauty. The clock may be the most magnificent structure in this city!

The Long Market and the Magnificent Gdansk Town Hall

Gdansk, the City of Gates

My market is at one end of the street, the Golden Gate is at the riverside end there is also the Green Door…

I forgot to mention; Gdansk is the city of gates

You can often see these gates in the old city centre.. It is generally built like 2-3 storey private buildings and has arch-shaped openings from the inside and you enter and exit the square and the street from there.. Especially the Golden Gate is another beautiful one, don’t miss it…

I’ll be visiting soon The Golden Gate / The surprise is gone! The Sun Is Clearly Opening The Gates of Gdansk: This Green Gate by the River

Is it a Rainbow?

And these gates are rain shields for me! Because I’m stuck at the door leading to the river from Long Market, it’s raining heavily

But a few minutes later, “the sun?”

If there’s rain and sun, let the rainbow come !

My Rain Shield Behind the Green Door I Watch Gdansk with Rain and Sun; Delicious!

Things suddenly turn upside down in Gdansk, it’s sunny now

The weather in the city has really changed with the sun and rainbow. Those depressing houses have turned into bright spring colors, now It’s time to wander the streets and take photos a lot.

The Rainbow Has Arrived Can I Pass Such An Unforgettable Moment Without A Photograph? This Is The Back Side

Gdansk’s Islands

I set foot on one of Gdansk’s islands from the Green Bridge in front of the Green Gate. I say island, but it is a part of the city I say so only because rivers run on both sides.

This is also a very touristic area, but it is under construction for now, that catches my attention the most. lots of mobile sweet sellers I see around. Poland’s sugary pastry desserts are in vain, definitely try it!

Here’s the Island for You Just Kidding The River Divides A Wonderful Street I Discovered, Find It “Poland’s Candy Sweets pastry desserts of all kinds”

“The cafes of this city are very nice”

I want to have a snack and rest now. Şso that I can have a little view so that I can both fill my stomach and watch the city

Eat a great boutique pancake shop called “Pan Kejk” on the Long Market I came. There is everything to eat and drink here, and you won’t believe the prices. I got a great sandwich, salad and unlimited coffee for only 15-20 zloty.

I Need to Have a Rest and Eat Something / “Pakejk” Gdansk

Time to enjoy sunny Gdansk. I pass the Golden Gate at the upper end of the Long Market and open to the modern part of the city.

There is a triumphal arch-like gate and another historical building behind the Golden Gate.. You have now reached the wide streets of Gdansk here.

Gdansk Became Another Beautiful When The Sun Comes Out The Golden Gate I Just Mentioned Gdansk Houses Also Shine Differently!

A Little Out of the City, The Environment Is Different

There is a huge modern shopping mall right across the street. It is also possible to see socialist-style buildings when you go to a little bit further in the city. Gdansk dates back to different historical periods. It is a city that has witnessed it too.

I am now finishing my sightseeing in Gdansk.. You might think that this city is an atmospheric place anyway, and all its streets and avenues are special in general, so I say go everywhere

The Other Side of the Golden Gate and the Starting Point of the Modern City, The Shopping Center Just Opposite the Long Market , Trams and Wide Streets A Little Beyond the Shrin You Can See These Types of Buildings Now Some Gdansk Travel Tips!
