Gothenburg Travel Guide: Places to Visit and Recommendations
The second part of our Gothenburg series, written by dear Nilay Kılınç, consists of places to visit in Gothenburg and suggestions for places.. Check out the first post with lots of tips on transportation, accommodation, budget, city events, Swedish culture and Gothenburg.
Oithebloggers know how to travel, so I’m sure it’s a city before you start your tour. you get the map. I have compiled the points I will suggest by region, so you will be able to visit the places within the same area on foot.
Places to Visit in Gothenburg: City Center
Train The station and its surroundings are referred to as the city center.. You will see plenty of hotels and therefore tourists in this region, and you will surf the pavement to avoid being crushed by tram/bus/bike traffic.
*Nordstan
A shopping. For the first time in my life, I experienced the fact that the center is in every travel guide and the locals advise “You can go to Nordstan”.. As the sons of a country whose lands are unfortunately parceled out with shopping malls, Nordstan will never cut us off, but it’s like a source of pride in Sweden because it’s one of the biggest shopping malls in Europe.. I guess it is interesting for them because Sweden is not a country that prefers shopping malls.. Considerable if you are considering a shopping tour for Swedish brands and the weather is very bad. The punks of the city hang out at the exit door facing the train, which can be satisfying sociologically.
*Opera House (Göteborgsoperan)
Lilla Bommen’ Located by the river in Gothenburgsoperan, it adds an innovative and creative air to the city’s silhouette with its postmodern architecture.. Good news for those who wish for an inspiring evening, this year opera Shakespeare’s 400. celebrates its anniversary and performs Macbeth and Hamlet in English. When you’re so close to the sea, don’t look at Gothenburg’s silhouette and don’t turn around without waving your finger, “Are you big or are you big?”, and the nickname of the burgundy plaza with a lipstick-like window is “lipstick”, every Gothenburg native knows that KIPS.
*Gothenburg City Museum (Göteborgs Stadsmuseum)
Get the Viking history buffs here. Because there is even a Viking ship in this museum! at the same time 18. You will be able to learn the history of Gothenburg since the 19th century. My favorite part is the memoirs written by an Iranian traveling diplomat in the Middle Ages.. In summary, this person had the chance to observe the Vikings while in the Balkans and tells how immoral (or we can interpret it as liberal), unhygienic but also egalitarian and democratic they were.. If he were alive today, he’d probably be amazed at how the one-toothed beast turned sides.. If you wander around the museum, you will see the Göteborg Rådhus aka the courthouse.
If you are under 25, the entrance to the museum is free. Otherwise, you can pay 40 SEK and get a season ticket.. With this ticket, admission to Gothenburg Art Museum, Gothenburg Art Museum, Röhsska Museum, Maritime Museum and Gothenburg Natural History Museum is free.
*Saluhallen
Saluhallen is one of my favorite things to do in Sweden. These are the places where there are small restaurants with the taste of the Grand Bazaar, where spices, coffee beans, all kinds of cheese and antipasti are sold, and which are very enjoyable in the gastronomic sense.. Gothenburg has a nice one on Kungsportsplatsen square. It is an ideal stop especially for those who want to try delicatessen products unique to Sweden.. The construction of this bazaar started in the 1850s.. Meanwhile, at Kungsportsplatsen and IX. The Kopparmärra statue, which depicts Karl on a horse, is the Gothenburg version of “Let’s meet in front of Burger King” (Let’s not withhold this information from those who will make a Tinder date).
*Domkyrkan
Gothenburg’s oldest church, Domkyrkan, was built by King Gustav II. It is being built just after Adolf founded the city in 1621. This church, built in classical architecture, looks more like a clock tower.. Lucia time and pre-Christmas choir events happening, it can be a different experience. Wander around the church and you will see nice cafes and shops!
*Kungsparken
Maybe you want to run a little, or walk… The weather is nice , You bought fresh bread and cheese from Saluhallen, you want to have fun. Maybe, you don’t have to go to a restaurant.. Don’t even go, come to Kungsparken and look at the canal, lay on the grass and have a picnic. If the weather is not good, walk through this park from the center to your next sightseeing area, hug a tree or two while you are past. In summer, this park is full, the ideal environment to be a social butterfly.
*Feskekôrka
This place, which means “fish church”, is actually a fish state.. It is called a church because of its architecture similar to gothic Norwegian churches made of wood or stone.. There are two great restaurants inside this indoor fish market built in 1874.. Visit the building and try the best examples of Scandinavian cuisine.. Take away options are also available.. You can’t come to Sweden without tasting pickled herring!
*The coolest street: Magasinsgatan
The undisputed tour of the city center The most enjoyable place is Magasinsgatan and its parallel streets Västra Hamngatan and Vallgatan. You will see many large and small shops in these streets.. For example, if you want to look for vintage clothes, you can check out the city’s best vintage shops, Miss Ragtime (Magasinsgatan 15), and Pop Boutique (Magasinsgatan 22).. On Vallgatan is the famous Swedish brand Nudie Jeans, which sells designs by former Levis stylist Maria Erixon (Vallgatan 15). If you walk all the way to the end of Vallgatan, you can find the cult brand NK selling Swedish-designed clothes on Östra Hamngatan (Östra Hamngatan, 42). If you are a concept store enthusiast, I suggest you take a look at Grandpa (Vallagatan, 3). There are both Scandinavian fashion and international brands, a shop that is skilled in vintage.
Ask the hip crew of the city, “where do you hang out, love?” if you ask “Liebling, Liebling, Liebling!” they will shout. It is both a bar and a restaurant, so you can come across DJ sets on Fridays.. Morning breakfasts and coffee are pretty good. Also one of the good places for cheese, anti-pasti platter and wine. Drink prices are also very affordable, especially cocktail lovers!
If you’re not a carnivore like me, I have a good idea for you.. Vallgatan 12 is a very different restaurant, in fact it is a concept store. It sells interior design items, clothes and flowers, and has a great food menu.. If you are a fashion and art-loving foodie, you are already obliged to come to Vallgatan! It’s good to meet you, otherwise who knows where you would be exhausted with Iphone in your hand. Here you do a lot of Instagram sharing, you catch up. Let’s also mention that there are very good coffee and craft beers.
Now this piece is for those who live for coffee.. If you want to take a coffee break, you are in the right place! Da Matteo(Magasinsgatan 24) is both the flag bearer of third wave coffee and one of the best cafes in the city for its ambiance and quality.. Do you want Chemex or V60, they have it all. Be sure to consult for coffee beans, their baristas are very knowledgeable.. Even don’t forget to buy yourself a bag of coffee as a gift, it may be the best decision you’ve ever made.. Don’t leave without checking out the Artilleriet Interiors(Magasinsgatan 19) interior design store behind Da Matteo and the Acne Studios(Magasinsgatan 19) store across the street!
The third wave is good, but we are classicists, for minimalists who say that a good espresso or americano is enough, who is happy with the little things in life, who has had their share of nel drip, chemex Bar Centro ( Kyrkogatan 31) cut out. There was this place before the third wave, one of the best coffee shops in the city!
Sometimes Bar Centro gets too full. If the weather is bad, there is no point in turning into a coffee rat in your hand.. So you can run the Fortress to Kaffebar (Kyrkogatan 13) located in this vicinity. This is a cafe that is very popular with the locals.. They have healthy snacks, there are many alternatives from vegan sandwiches to raw desserts.. Their coffee is also delicious!
If you want to sit in a pub, you can go to Ölhallen 7:an (Kungstorget 7) which is the favorite pub of the city in this area by the locals.. This is a modest and warm place where you will not see tourists and you will not regret the beers you drink when the bank statement comes.. I’m immediately transferring you to Sticky Fingers (Kaserntorget 7). Open between 20:00-02:00 on Thursdays, 21:00-03:00 on Fridays and 21:00-04:00 on Saturdays. Finding a place open until 4 am in Sweden is such a surreal thing that you go to this bar just for that reason.. Before you go, you can take a look at the event calendar, I’m sure you’ll come across a good live music or DJ set.. Those who say it’s past us now can leave early to eat and brew.
I could never forget those who wanted to go out on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Although Swedes don’t flock to the nights these days, you don’t need to follow such codes as you are a tourist.. You can go to Nefertiti (Hvitfeldtsplatsen 6) which is my favorite bar and jazz club. Event prices range from 40-250 SEK, but it’s definitely worth it for its interior design, atmosphere and quality events.
Places To Visit In Gothenburg: Lorensberg District
This The region is a place that I do not like to wander around because there are very large structures built in the new era.. We can say that Gothenburg is an arts, sports, culture and entertainment district.. Concert and sports complex for tens of thousands of people, Scandinavium, gigantic exhibition and conference hall Svenska Mässan, football stadium Ullevi, world cultures oriented art museum Världkulturmuseet and other places to read soon are here. Therefore, you usually see crowds of students, businessmen, athletes and tourists.. But when you leave these magnificent buildings behind, you find yourself on the most popular street of the city, Avenyn.. In its immediate vicinity, you encounter the historical buildings of the University of Gothenburg. The day you spend in this region will be satisfying in terms of culture and arts, but walking distances are more tiring than the city center, so I would say wear comfortable shoes.
*Liseberg
Another place I can’t understand after Nordstan is Liseberg Amusement Park. This park, which every Gothenburgian loves and even Swedes travel for hours just to spend time here, is a place in a green area, where there are restaurants, pubs and street food stands.. I agree, it looks great with the lights at Christmas time but the amusement park is nothing short of astonishing after all.. There are no tricky toys like in Japanese amusement parks, so it’s a normal plain amusement park.. Plus it’s expensive! Trebello for a coffee break, Tyrolens Terrass for beer. Horror themed Gasten Ghost Bar‘s desserts are so good. Entrance fees are constantly changing, so you will have to check on their website.
*Gothia Towers
Gothia is actually a hotel and congress hall. But what makes it so popular is the view from its rooftop.. For example, if you want to love Liseberg from afar, you can come to the top floor of Gothia.. Prefer evening hours, so you come across the illuminated amusement park.. When you are in Gothia, you feel as if you are in a very big city, you look at the only big buildings in the city from the top of a very high building, and you watch the amusement park with lighting.. There is only one thing you have to do in Gothia Tower, go to the bar/restaurant named Heaven 23 on the top floor and eat King Size. What is King Size, a very large open sandwich stuffed with shrimp topped with shrimp?. The idea is imported from America, but this open shrimp sandwich is a must-eat in Sweden.. Isn’t that a big deal, but we can’t say to the waiter “you make a casserole for the shrimp, honey, we’ll hear that bread, we’ll eat it with a mouthful”.
*Universeum
A treasure trove for science and nature enthusiasts, this gigantic building is Scandinavia’s largest science center. Instead of going to Liseberg, you can come to Universeum and see one of the largest aquariums in the world.. They built the 1.4 million liter aquarium in the form of a tunnel, so a shark can run under your feet while walking.. If amusement is park, that’s it, amuse to what in the carousel, amuse to whom? Those who say they don’t like Jaws can go to the rainforest section, there are 600 species of living things here.. Really great environment. Apart from that, there is the space and technology section and the snake section with 150 different venomous species.. For 175 SEK I say change your world. Two beers and a hot dog coin.
*Gothenburg Art Museum (Göteborgs Konstmuseum)
Van Gogh, Monet and Picasso as in d’Orsay and Rijk If you want to see it without human flooding, relax because there are no school groups in this museum making jokes with selfie sticks in front of 600-year-old artifacts.. There is usually a crowd that does not disturb, so you can walk around calmly.. There is also a section where Scandinavian artists are exhibited.. I say pull a tiny chair in front of Gustaf Cederström’s King Karl XII’s Likfärd and dive into its details.. The huge Poseidon statue in the middle of the Götaplatsen Square in front of the museum was enormous, and it was a pretty topic in its time because of its shameful places.. If you haven’t had enough of art, there is the Hasselblad Center near the museum. There are very good exhibitions and events in this center where you can find the works of international and Swedish photographers! Also, in the immediate vicinity of the art museum are the city’s concert hall Göteborgs Konserthus and the city theater Göteborgs Stadsteater.
*Röhsska Museet
This is an art, design and fashion museum that I visit often in Gothenburg. Apart from the exhibitions, there are also social events held on weekends.. When you’re in Sweden, the design country, you can’t go back without seeing how design has evolved since the 1800s.. If you are under 25, admission is free, and if you are over 40, those who buy the museum ticket are free.. You can also take a small coffee break here because I admire the cafe.. Soups and sandwiches are prepared with delicious and completely ecological products.. Coffee and desserts are very successful and affordable.
*The coolest street: Kungsportsavenyen
Gothenburg The name of this street, which we can call ‘un Nişantaşı’ or Bağdat Caddesi, is Avenyn. This street is a place where mostly professionals and tourists hang out during the day.. Here are the places that every tourist visits, such as the Hard Rock Cafe. Actually, I didn’t choose to spend much time in Avenyn, I just stopped by for my museum and gallery tours.. This street gets very strange on Friday and Saturday nights, do you think they vomit, are they waiting in line at the doors of the clubs trying to be upper class, it is possible to see all kinds of local and foreign people.. There are three fine art galleries here, Galleri Aveny (Teatergatan 16), Galleri Kim Anstensen (Götabergsgatan 18) and Galleri Thomassen (Götabergsgatan 26) .
You will see many bars, cafes and pubs in this area. If you are thinking of a good feast, I recommend 28 Plus, one of the best restaurants in the city.. Yes it is expensive, but the quality of the food and wine is very good. It is useful to dress casual smart while going here.. Michelin-starred 28 Plus offers a fusion Swedish cuisine. You’ll need to make a reservation, of course!
A cheaper alternative is Cafe Tintin, open 24 hours, 7 days a week. One of the only cafes open 24 hours in Sweden. Comic book-inspired interior is very relaxing. Ideal place to take a coffee break after touring all day. Or it could be a stop after a long night to ease your hangover a bit.. Their breakfasts are also very good.
I don’t miss coffee-loving vegans, and I recommend Cafe Berlin where you can find a variety of healthy food.. Tiny and cute place. Both healthy and affordable. Oh how good it is.
But still the best cafe here Viktors Kaffe (Geijersgatan 7). They have a breakfast buffet, soups, hot and cold sandwiches, classic Swedish desserts. Portions are hearty. Their coffee is amazing. Specially announced to espresso lovers. A typical Scandinavian cafe, white, minimal, art-loving.
It’s evening, you’re ready for the night, but in Avenyn you don’t know where you go.. Your address is clear in this area, Yaki Da! They serve between 23:00-03:00 on Wednesdays, 22:00-04:00 on Fridays, 22:00-04:00 on Saturdays.. There are very good concert events in Yaki Da, it can be a good choice especially for listening to local bands.. The club part is the kind that will make dance floor lovers smile, especially if you come across one of the rave nights, densss until the morning!
Places to Visit in Gothenburg: Haga-Masthugget Region
Here are the parts of the city that are loved by everyone. You see university students, the elderly, young professional couples walking around with their babies, tourist groups walking to take pictures, in short, local and foreigners from all age groups flock here.. You will be found here mostly for shopping, cafes and social environments.. Places that are fun to walk and get lost in. There is not a single “cool” street, so after describing the historical and touristic places, I will introduce three places. I mean, it’s cool everywhere here!
*Skansen Kronan AB
In the heart of the city, This castle, which will make you feel the historical texture in one of the hippest areas. You’ll have to climb some stairs to reach the top, but once you reach the castle, a 360-degree view of Gothenburg will be waiting for you.. The castle was built in the 1700s to protect the city against a possible Danish attack.. Today it is used for conferences and private parties.. They have a great brunch on Sundays. If you want to experience a typical Swedish brunch with a view, spend some money and come here (219 SEK for a very satisfying menu). Brunch starts at 13:00. By going up and down the stairs, you also burn what you eat.
*Slottskogen
The forest is beautiful, come over! This huge park/forest is one of my favorite places to spend time in Gothenburg.. Like all parks in Sweden, this one has been open to the public since 1874.. It also houses the Gothenburg Museum of Natural History. Apart from that, if you are one of those who come to Sweden and say not to see elk and deer, you can head to the zoo section.. i love watching penguins. There’s also an urban legend that a drunk teenager smuggled a penguin from the park, tried to keep it in his bathtub, and woke up in the morning covered in blood with no news of what had happened.. It’s a bullshit, but it’s a story I hear from every Gothenburgian when it comes to the park.. Also, I should mention that all the special occasions that can be celebrated outdoors and Way Out West are also held in this park.
*Haga Nygata
Every city has a specific place, everyone loves and goes once a week.. Haga is the most sympathetic place in Gothenburg.. It was established as the first suburb of Gothenburg in the early 1700s by order of Queen Kristina.. Back then, it was always fields, my grandfather had lands.. But now Haga is a shopping and fika haven in the heart of the city. Whatever you call a fika, it’s one of Sweden’s most important social norms, meaning a coffee break.. The action where you meet your loved ones while drinking coffee and having a dessert or sandwich or you go to eat the first pudding with your loved one. There are wooden houses built between 1870-1940 in Haga, and each one is more cute than the other! Therefore, you feel very positive here, you see beautiful cafes, boutique shops selling handcrafted foods and clothes, designer products and second hand shops around you.. It gets very busy on weekends, locals and tourists alike.. That’s why I’m going to suggest a few cafes instead of one, you will have alternatives in density.
Cafe Husaren (Haga Nygata 28), the most well-known cafe in this street, the reason is that it is an internationally renowned giant canelbullet. Kanelbulle is a cinnamon bun you should definitely taste in Sweden.. This cafe is making oversized sizes, so if you go with your close friends, you can get a very comradely memory of “we split our canalbulle and ate it”.. Their coffee is Italian, their sandwich breads are fresh and this cafe will be one of your most enjoyable breaks.
The second alternative is Cafe Kringlan(Haga Nygata), one of the best cafes in the city 13). Inside this lovely wooden building, there are homemade marmalades, cheeses, breads.. They have a great buffet, they serve both healthy and fresh food. Their coffees are delicious, there are also different types of tea.. Eat semla when you come here, it is also a very popular dessert in Sweden, served with icing and powdered sugar on a light dough.. A cafe latte goes well with it.. If the weather is good, you can have a great fika sitting in the open area in front of the cafe and watching the passersby.
Although all the cafes in Haga Nygata are your go-to, my favorite is Le Petit Cafe” I would like to introduce (Haga Nygata 2). It has a very good breakfast and lunch buffet.. Desserts are amazing and fresh. Their coffee is not inferior to desserts either.. I love the decor, it’s the kind of place where you want to sit for a long time with its calm and home-like atmosphere.. On nice days, there’s nothing better than sitting outside and watching the passersby.. Since there is no wifi, you do not see the socialites with laptops.. So it’s a cool place, but not a new generation cool place. Grab your book and go. It is also interesting that they serve “Turkish” yogurt for breakfast even though its business is Greek.
*Linnégatan
It is named after Sweden and actually Named after Carl von Linne, one of the world’s most important botanists, this street can be called the most fashionable street after Avenyn.. But it’s more sub-cultural than Avenyn, so it’s not a place for a snooze.. It is also possible to see the historical texture here, churches, stairs to the hills, old buildings… For example, you can go to the Swedish History Museum. Here, the history and art of the country, starting from the Viking-Middle Ages, are exhibited. The street resembles an American-style boulevard due to its construction, and it is quite rare to see such a formation in Sweden.. It is very pleasant to walk on this street, you do not have to sit in a cafe.. But if you want to take a coffee or lunch break while you’re around, I won’t hurt you.
I think this is the place to go on this street for sure Hagabion Kino(Linnegatan 21). This cafe and bar, located under an old cinema that is still in operation, will enthuse you with its delicious vegetarian dishes, craft beers and ecological wines.. You can try the beers of Stigbergets Bryggeri, a local micro brewery. You can watch the cinema program while you go upstairs to drink your coffee calmly and devour their daily desserts.. Maybe if you’re a good kid, you can even come across a movie in a language you can understand.. It is very pleasant to sit in the garden in the summer, if you can find a place! Some evenings there are DJ sets and the city’s art and literature celebrities flock here.. The only downside of the cafe is that it opens at 5 pm, so if you’re early, you’ll have to sit elsewhere.. Kafferosten (Linnegatan 62) is a tiny place, but the breakfast and coffee menu is not tiny! If you like croissant, you will love Kafferosten because they make croissants fresh out of the oven, one doesn’t know how many to order.. The prices of this cafe, which is famous for Sunday breakfasts, are also quite affordable.. There are many different paintings on its walls, so it is a frequent destination for art lovers of the city.
If you want to have a cafe but also have a drink, The Kitchen (Skanstorget 1), one of the hippest cafes in the city, will meet your expectations.. If you’re vegan or trying to stay away from gluten, The Kitchen can become your go-to destination.. With overflowing ingredients from their huge bagels, waffle days, hot sandwiches and a rich breakfast buffet, you’re sure to fill your stomach.. There are also many different craft beers.. You can try vegan versions of classic Swedish desserts.
*Järntorget
Gothenburg’s Kadıköy or Järntorget, which we can call Istiklal Street, means Iron Square. The reason for this was that the irons were weighed from the port here and sent to foreign countries.. This is historically a left-wing and working-class place, but today it’s a colorful neighborhood where alternative youth hang out, with bars, pubs, record stores, second hand shops, small art galleries, even sex shops and a strip club.. And yet the nights are long around Järntorget! It is the ideal neighborhood for second-hand shopping, going out at night or taking a coffee break, especially if you want to get to know the spirit of the city closely.
If you come to Järntorget, it’s the coolest street of Andra Långgatan
You’re sure to walk through the strong> at least a few times.. I’ll introduce some nice places on this street soon.. If you want to visit the second-hand shops and the biggest flea market in the city, head straight to the parallel street Första Långgatan. Here you will find the Kommersen Loppmarknad flea market in an old warehouse covered with graffiti. You can find anything you can think of, from clothing to jewelry, cameras to VHSs.. Maybe something very interesting will come across and it could be a great memory piece for you or an original gift for someone close.
For your coffee break, head to Cafe Santo Domingo/Dirty Records. (Andra Långgatan 4A) I recommend you to go. This is also a record store.. You can watch a record, make fika with a nice coffee or tea.. The desserts here are both affordable and available in gluten-free, lactose-free or vegan options.. Especially Chai Latte lovers come here, a very ecological, very aromatic cup will be waiting for you.. With its music playing, decoration, live cocoa plants, hundreds of records and posters, this is the most authentic cafe in the city.
If you want to have a hearty meal and infuse, the tempting Publik (Andra Långgatan 20). The food is very tasty, the drink menu is wide, the atmosphere is warm. It can be very busy in some evenings, but it is nice to see a crowd when the city is generally secluded.. With its dim lights and minimal decor, it is the ideal place for a bar conversation.
I haven’t forgotten about you, cheap ones either! You’ve already been destroyed on this trip, you spent a lot of money, at least let’s make food and drink cheap, right? Go to Kelly’s Bar (Andra Långgatan 28), their pizza is great and cheap, there are vegetarian and vegan options too. Drinks are cheap and may even be the most affordable pub in town.. Usually the city’s rock lovers hang out here.
Now I’d like to take you to my favorite pub in the city, Järntorgets Brygghus! (Järntorget 4) I don’t know how many types of beers they have, but every time I go, new ones are added to the list.. The environment is very nice, if you want to eat, it is also available, as long as you do not have big expectations, it is suitable for filling your stomach.. Ideal for long evening sittings, the staff are sympathetic and helpful. I’ve heard that the gatekeepers can act strangely sometimes, it didn’t occur to me, but keep your passport with you.. If you are a large group, this is the most suitable pub for you in this area.
Finally, the best club to go to in this area is Pustervik(Järntorgsgatan 12). There are both concert events and DJ sets.. Pustervik, a cafe by day, has a great soup bar. At night, different music rooms in its large two-story area are ready to make you dance according to your favorite genres.. But if you wish, there are also areas such as the lounge where you can sit comfortably and chat.. Do not forget to check the event calendar before you go.
Places to Visit in Gothenburg: Majorna District
It is not possible to introduce a single street in Majorna because there are only good places to go. not on a street. That’s what makes Majorna beautiful.. A wonderful cafe can appear in a narrow street, you can come across a tiny gallery when you take the wrong street, and you can come across an antique shop while looking at old houses.. This is a quiet place with tiny parks and wooden houses.. Artists usually sit here and hang out. We can say that it is the Cihangir of Gothenburg.. But not the current Cihangir, but Cihangir, where everything is calmer and more modest.
*Maritime Museum and Aquarium ( Sjöfartsmuseet Akvariet)
If you want to learn about shipping in Sweden and the maritime history of Gothenburg, I suggest you take a look at this museum.. As you know, the sea is very important for Gothenburg and a very strong maritime culture prevails.. There are also maritime art events.. The aquarium part is also quite interesting.. You can touch living things in the pool area. There are Nordic species in the northern seas, and colorful corals and poisonous underwater creatures in the tropical waters.. If you want to know how it feels to be a captain, there is also a ship simulator that puts you in a good mood!
*Masthugskyrkan
This will attract your attention with its tile-colored stones from the top. don’t hesitate to climb the stairs to the church because you will encounter a wonderful view of Gothenburg. The sea, the hills, the bridge and the other side of the city will appear at your eye level. There is a nice sense of melancholy when you see the young people sitting on the big rocks and drinking, maybe you will get the feeling of making a few notes about your trip in your notebook.. The church is a true Nordic classic, so I recommend you go into it.
*Röda Sten Konsthall
<
From the outside, it looks like a strange building covered with graffiti right under the bridge by the sea, but it’s actually an art house! One of the hippest venues in the city, with great art activities and exhibitions. Also, the restaurant is delicious, maybe you can have a drink and end your art tour that way.
*Klippans Kulturreservat
While you’ve come this far for Röda Sten, we’re at Gothenburg’s You can also wander around the founding campus Klippan. Founded in 1857, when wealthy Scottish families and Irish missionaries settled in Gothenburg St.. You can visit the Birgittas Chapel and climb up to Älvsborg Castle built in 1653. Also here is the port brewery D, founded by a Scottish merchant.. Carnegie & Co.. and sugar factory. End your trip with a good meal at one of Sweden’s best restaurants, Sjömagasinet. This restaurant is seafood oriented and has a Michelin star.. Not to mention that it hosted giants like Bruce Springsteen and the Rolling Stones! Against the sea view, “c’est la vie!” It will be an experience that will make you say. These prices are beyond us, whatever you say, you can drink coffee or dine at Klippans Konstcafe. It is very lively, especially on weekends.
Before moving on to food and beverage and nightly entertainment suggestions, I will talk about a very pleasant boutique that supports local artists and designers, exhibits and sells their works.. Pop In(Slottsskogsgatan 52), a shop founded on architectural, textile and urban planning design. Instead of buying magnets and mugs as a souvenir from Gothenburg, you can stop by here and buy a tote bag or a poster.. Biscotti (Allmänna Vägen 34) is one of the cafes I love to go to.. Its breakfast, desserts and coffees are famous but I love their handmade pasta.. It is mostly visited by local residents, young couples and couples with children.. It’s a family place.
Another lovely and famous place in Majorna is Kafe Kultur(Bangatan 6). A real neighborhood cafe! Their open sandwiches and bagels are quite filling.. Vegetarian options are also considered. Regulars claim that the best coffee in the city is drunk here.. If you want a classic Swedish breakfast you can eat here. As you can see from the name, there are cultural events.. Even though most of them require knowing Swedish, if you come across, I would say stay.
We Turks are lovers of sea views, if there is a rooftop, we have to go out and look at the city from above.. We immediately underestimate the cities where we cannot do this, and stick the phrase “It’s not a Bosphorus”.. For example, although I love Berlin and many people I love from my social circle live there, it is a place where I do not think of moving just because of the sea view that I cannot see from the top.. Where do I link the thread, to Henriksberg at Majorna (Stigbergsliden 7). When you climb to the top floor of this bar and restaurant, a wonderful sea view will be waiting for you.. You can sip your drink on the open terrace if the weather is good, or on the covered terrace if the weather is bad, against the city lights and the sea.. This is a really enjoyable terrace bar.. I’ve never tried their food, but those who do say their burgers and pizzas are good.. I vouch for their drinks and environment, I don’t interfere with the rest. In some evenings, there are concerts or cultural and artistic events, you can check their website.

Greece‘s greenest island Lesbos owes its green nature to water resources. Lesbos, the third largest island of the country, has lush forests, water springs, tiny canyons, endemic plants and incredible mountain views.
The island’s second largest city, Plomari, is and places that manage to stay away from the negative effects of urbanization due to its geographical location.. When you say the second largest city of the island, Plomari is not a city-like place.. The size that we can call the largest town or seaside resort in Turkey.. With its scattering mountain villages, the population of 7 thousand finds it difficult.
Plomari Square
With its pristine beaches, historical wooden houses, small taverns, plane and olive trees, coffee houses and views, Plomari journey is one of the best options to get away from it all.. No matter how crowded and active the center of Lesbos is, Plomari experiences the opposite.
The birthplace of Barbaros
As Captain-i Derya, the first captain of the Ottoman Empire Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha, who was the pasha and the great admiral, was born in Plomari in 1473.. Although there is no trace of Barbaros in Plomari, this name is very important for the history of the seafaring town.
Akrasi, Ampeliko, Megalohori, Neohori, Paleohori, which is known as Plomaritohoria on the south coast of Lesbos The town, consisting of the villages of Plagia, Trigonas, has a strategic location.. Dominating Chios in Greece and Karaburun in Izmir, the town has a deep-rooted trade tradition.
Beautiful photos can be taken in the side streets of Plomari
The place where ouzo and olive oil soap were first produced
strong>
Within the Greek islands, 19. Turning into one of the most important centers of industry, commerce, production and maritime trade in the mid-century, Plomari is also the place where the Greek national drink ouzo was first produced.. Today, just like raki, the quality of ouzo is measured by the water used.. Since Plomari has the best quality drinking water sources in the geography of Greece, the aroma it adds to ouzo is noticed everywhere.. There is no production today, except for a few ouzo workshops.. Plomari, with its beaches and cultural tourism, is a region where European, American and Turkish tourists spend more time in high season.. Since it is not very well known, the region, which is not crowded and uncomplicated, is ideal for those who want to relax and have a peaceful holiday. Ouzo, which he throws, is consumed in a similar way in coffee houses today.. Drinks thrown together while playing backgammon or chatting with friends accompany the pleasant conversation.. Unlike Turkey, the coffeehouse culture in Greece also includes the offering of liquor.
ouzos produced in Plomari
Because of the ouzo production, it is between Lesbos and Plomari. there is serious competition. What makes the cute town one step ahead of this competition is the quality water source and the qualified anise grown in the region with aromatic plants.. It is possible to count Pitsiladi, Yannaçi, Varvayani and Plomari/Isidoro Arvaniti among the ouzos that have become brands in the town.
Things to do in Plomari
The so-called ‘old town’ in the center of the town, which is one of the oldest settlements on the island, is where you can witness typical Greek architecture.. Two-story, bay window, mostly wooden houses line the narrow streets.. It is essential to enjoy walking among the historical houses on quiet and calm streets without traffic noise and to breathe the atmosphere of the town.
There are many shops, shops and coffee houses around the big plane tree in the city square.. After wandering the streets, it is quite enjoyable to relax, have a drink and chat with the local people.
The beaches, each carrying the blue flag, which are chirpy in the summer season, are an unforgettable experience for those who love sea, sand and sun holidays.. Agios Isidoros Beach is shown among the few beaches not only in the region but also in Greece.
Oceanis Cafe
Make sure to try frappe, one of the cold drinks consumed by the Greeks.. Iced coffee, which is prepared by adding milk and sugar according to preference, is available in cafes and coffee houses in every corner of the town.. One of my suggestions is the Oceanis Cafe, where we sit to drink frappe with its stylish design.. Souffle is around 3€, waffle is around 4€, frappe is around 2€, Turkish (Greek) coffee is around 1.5€.. When you sit in all restaurants and cafes, a large glass of water is offered free of charge.. Get immersed in life by sitting in the cafes that stretch towards the beach and the port.
There are 3 different museums in the town that appeal to enthusiasts. Varvayianni Ouzo Museum, Lomari Isidoros Arvanitis Ouzo Museum and Soap Museum are must-sees to see the most important production tools for this town.. The hospitality and warm welcome at the museums make people happy.
Where to stay in Plomari
There are nearly 25 accommodation options in the charming town.. Among these places that can be preferred according to the budget and accommodation concept, there is also a hostel, a luxury studio.. So before you go, decide exactly what kind of place you want to stay.. I stayed at Frini Studios on my trip to Plomari. There is a special 10 percent discount for Keşfetsek at the property that got full marks from me for its hospitality and approach.. Check out my Frini Studios post for discount details and a closer look at the facility.
The Mytilene-Plomari Road
How to get to Plomari
<
Plomari is 42 km from the center of the island of Lesvos.. Due to the nature of the road, this journey takes approximately 50 minutes by private vehicle.. In order to go to this town from Turkey, it is necessary to take a ferry from Ayvalık to Lesbos.. After the ferry ride that takes 1 hour and 15 minutes, the port of Lesbos is reached.. There is a municipal bus service between Mytilene and Plomari that runs 3-4 times a day.. However, without the hassle of the city bus, choose a pleasant journey by renting a car and being included in the nature view.
Plomari with its unspoiled nature, friendly people, historical structures, magnificent beaches, ouzo, olive oil and soap >, one of the most beautiful corners of Lesbos. Those planning a trip to Mytilene should spend a few days in this beautiful town.

Nepal Arrival
After our tiring and intense trip to India, we got out of the chaos and arrived in Nepal, where we said “oh there is a world”. We had a comfortable journey to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, with a 55-minute flight from Varanasi.. Nepal is 3 hours 20 minutes ahead of Turkey and 15 minutes ahead of India.
From Victoria Subirano’s book named A teacher in Kathmandu so that you can get an idea before you come to Nepal. you can watch the movie “A Mirror in the Sky” which he freely inspired. It is the film that reveals how the education system in Nepal works, poverty and mysticism.
Kathmandu is located in the valley at the confluence of the Vishnumati and Bagmati rivers.. There are dozens of temples hidden between its streets.. While it is difficult to breathe from the exhaust fumes in its narrow streets, it is certain that you will discover many things in the company of colorful shops, peddlers, bookshops and local people.
A blend of 2 religions, It is very possible to see that Buddhism and Hinduism coexist in the country where it is intertwined, and this unity is reflected even in objects and temples.. Whether Buddhist or Hindu, everyone can easily perform their daily rituals according to their religious beliefs.. There are enough temples in the city. Someone who goes to work or wanders around the streets completes his prayer by ringing the bell in the tiny temple on the street and applying the red paint inside the temple to his forehead.. A person who has prayed has red paint on his forehead. When you see this, know that that person has prayed. Let’s not forget that the main element of flower worship. During the worship we witnessed in temples, they offer flowers to their gods and light candles.
We were surprised that the fruits we ate did not taste salty, although agriculture is the livelihood of the country.. Especially when we say that the banana is disgusting that we have not eaten in our life, we say it’s like straw, we ate a banana that tasted just like that.. We got our Nepal visa quickly and very easily at the airport for 25 USD (15 days). They came to meet us because our hotel had a pick-up service.. We arrived at our hotel without the need to take a taxi.
We wrote the details and places we visited in separate sections to be more descriptive.
But first, let’s list the must-haves and some information you need to know for those who are considering coming to Nepal:
Take a mask. Too much air pollution in the city. If you don’t want to walk in dust and smoke, take your mask.
Bring walking shoes. The roads are very bad and dusty.. If you don’t want your nails to get dirty, wear sneakers.
Those who come to Nepal by plane should get a free map from the airport.. The map you will get from the hotels is not very descriptive and guiding.
Visit the bookstores in the Thamel area. There is a wide variety of books, magazines and many products for anyone interested in books, not just travelers.
Buy LP-Nepal. If not, you can find it in Thamel.. But those who do not want to buy definitely need a guide in the temple areas.. But for me, the temples and the figures carved on the temple do not mean anything, if you only want to take pictures of them, you do not even need a guide.. They charge up to 100 rs from tourists, don’t give more than 25 rs. For your information! Locals don’t like discounts in Kathmandu.
. If you are going to shop, know that they sell you exponentially more expensive.
Although not everywhere, 25% tax is charged in many restaurants and cafes.
Have dinner at Northfield Restaurant in the Thamel area.. There will be a pleasant dinner next to a cozy wood fire accompanied by Nepali music.
Entrance fee to all Durbar squares.
Kathmandu Durbar Square : 750 rs.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square : 1100 rs.
Patan Durbar Square : 500 rs.
Eat jujudhav yogurt in Bhaktapur. We should have paid 25 rs for 3 yogurts, but because we are tourists we paid 150 rs
Eat Daal Bhaat. It’s like Indian Thali.
Eat Momo. A dish resembling a tibetan dumpling. Vegetable, buffalo meat, chicken options are available. A little spicy and bitter.
During the time we were in Kathmandu, we made kora in Buddhist temples, translated mantras and sent our wishes to the universe in the fastest way, we worshiped according to God in Hindu temples :), We photographed the most beautiful examples of Newari architecture, followed closely the funerals of the cremated dead in accordance with Hinduism, practiced their rituals, respectively, Svayambhu Mahachaitya (Monkey Temple) temple, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Bhaktapur, Changu Narayan Temple, Kathmandu and Patan Durbar Squares. Gdansk Travel Notes: Better Than Poland!
There are some places that I came across somewhere and noted down and I couldn’t wait to go… Here is such a special route for me in Gdansk
I have been on my master’s degree for almost a year. Since I live in Brescia, Italy, I plan to visit various cities in Europe in combination.. I chose Gdansk first and said I’d go to Norway from here, to Alesund…
Gdansk Overview / Famous “Pencil Houses” of the City
My Plane Could Not Land in Gdansk
Here come the time, I went to Alesund and even got on the plane to Gdansk on the way back!
Oh what a plane ride…
While getting on I knew there was 55 km/h wind in Gdansk but I guessed it would be okay. But we couldn’t land on our first try, it passed, the plane was rocking like a cradle!
I Shared Those Moments We Couldn’t Land in Gdansk on Instagram @gorkemliyollarcom
An airstrip I was on for the first time in my life he had to pass, luckily the pilot managed to land in Gdansk on our second attempt…
It wasn’t a very good start, but I’m welcome Poland
Trying to go to Gdansk Glowny <
Finally Gdansk!
If the plane landed so hard, you should also think below, it’s as if I don’t come from the Norwegian fjords but went there, it’s so cold, wind, rain all together…
Since I got off at 10 pm anyway, I’m in trouble to go to my hostel and sleep You can actually reach the center directly from Gdansk Walesa airport by bus. But the buses after 11 o’clock leave at a different station called Wrzeszcz, and from there you reach the central Gdansk Glowny train station by commuter train.
That’s exactly how I got to the city and my hostel, but thanks to the Polish, who helped me while I was waiting for the bus. Thanks to a college couple…
Hello Gdansk / My First View in the City / Going to a Hostel
About Gdansk
Good morning from Gdanks!
This is Poland’ A city located on the Baltic Sea in the north of. Actually I visited all the Baltic countries and I loved it very much, but they said to Gdansk that this is Poland, you are not exactly Baltic
I mean this is Poland but Gdansk I think It’s even more beautiful than Poland…
Morning Hours / Walking By Motlawa
I’ve visited the capital Warsaw before, but now Gdansk is getting me pretty excited, let’s see what we’ll see…
Since my hostel is located at the northern end of the city, I also start walking from the riverside towards the center.
Yes, Gdansk is a typical Baltic city… I say that this city also has islands, rivers and plenty of water
strong>
Too Much Wind, But Not Without a Selfie
The Spirit of Gdansk: Motlawa River
Our River is Motlawa!
If I follow the Motlawa river, Gdansk’ It means I can almost completely tour the city. Because the city consists of this city and the small islands it surrounds.
First of all, when I come across a beautiful Gdansk text, she says OK. um I’m in the right place…
I Love Those City Names You Must See Me To Understand The Wind…
The Famous Cute Pencil Houses of Gdansk
The first thing I want to tell you in Gdansk is actually Houses that make up the unique architecture of this city.
In fact, although you can see similar ones in other cities of Germany and Poland in general, the ones here are more characteristic.. Thin and long, crooked, colorful houses like pencils!
Famous Pencil Houses of Gdansk / I Found This Name If I Found It In The Sun From The Tip, A Selfie Immediately…
And to the bottom aren’t they built?
Sweetly narrowing the top floors…
I admit that I saw the aerial view of these house-filled streets and fell in love with Gdansk and I thought I should see it. . Yes, maybe I won’t be able to see it from the air, but I’ll still see it.
“The top floors, which narrow down sweetly…”
There Could Be A Modern Building Without Destroying The City!
But here it is one thing to visit and see another photo of it.. The photos did not have modern siblings of these typical Gdansk houses either!
Yes, as a civil engineer, I noticed the modern buildings in Gdansk from the very first minute. Because the modern structures here are “we are modern” They don’t smirk They went and built with a nice modern interpretation of architecture similar to their old brothers.
I can’t say I’m not impressed with this work, Gdansk can still be visited after 50 years…
Modern Gdansk Houses I Like Very Much, There Are Some More Futuristic As Well… These Also Provided a Nice Transition / Modern-Old
Is Crane One Of The Attractions In Gdansk?
Now by the riverside While walking on the promenade called “Deptak Nadwodny”, I see one of the first things that come to mind when I think of places to visit in Gdansk.
What is that Crane?
Interesting place in Gdansk Crane The River And The Crane Look Better Here
Yes “Crane” is one of the interesting structures in Gdansk. This used to be a crane building used to load ships. If I said old, of course.. century is quite old The original state is destroyed, but the current one is worth seeing.
There is the Black Pearl of the pirates of the caribbean a little further ahead, there are nice photos, try it here…
Black Pearl is also here <
Like the Harry Potter Scene: Mariacka Street!
I’m diving down the river into Mariacka Street now
Mariacka at first sight became my favorite place in this city!
I feel like I’m on the street where I’m going to choose a wand for Hogwarts. “Hagrid, where do we get the wand?”
Can it be without a photo Mariacka Street
In Gdansk, you can feel an interestingly slightly British air; mysterious buildings painted in a depressing style, staircases in front of houses small courtyards and magnificent artistic details…
These small courtyard houses on Mariacka Street are boutique shops! Local products, gifts or jewellery, whatever you are looking for. All meticulously furnished with excellent details, this place can be studied for a few hours.
Magnets Here from the Map Detailed Shops in Mariacka Are So Sweet
Across the river side of the street, the huge St.. Mary’s Church…
Undoubtedly, it is one of the most magnificent buildings in the city, you can go inside and have a look at it.. Mary’s Church Is Also Visible
The Rain Follows Me
Just at that moment I’m being caught in the rain!
If it rains, I have a solution; raincoat and my umbrella…
Now it’s time where the heart of Gdansk beats; Long Sunday!
Long Sunday With Shaking Rain
Long Sunday
Long Sunday ie Długi Targ is a classic Polish style market-square. I don’t know why these guys built such thin and long squares, but it happened
As the name suggests, this is a long market area. If I said market, it means small peddlers and generally the shops lined up along the square, better if I say square…
Long Market / Długi Targ
You can see the most beautiful of the typical cute pencil houses of Gdansk that I mentioned in the Long Market.. The ones here are a little more historical and have wonderful decorations.
Also, I think the most eye-catching structure of the square is Gdansk Town Hall.
Gdansk Town Hall with its golden inlaid tower and legendary beauty. The clock may be the most magnificent structure in this city!
The Long Market and the Magnificent Gdansk Town Hall
Gdansk, the City of Gates
My market is at one end of the street, the Golden Gate is at the riverside end there is also the Green Door…
I forgot to mention; Gdansk is the city of gates
You can often see these gates in the old city centre.. It is generally built like 2-3 storey private buildings and has arch-shaped openings from the inside and you enter and exit the square and the street from there.. Especially the Golden Gate is another beautiful one, don’t miss it…
I’ll be visiting soon The Golden Gate / The surprise is gone! The Sun Is Clearly Opening The Gates of Gdansk: This Green Gate by the River
Is it a Rainbow?
And these gates are rain shields for me! Because I’m stuck at the door leading to the river from Long Market, it’s raining heavily
But a few minutes later, “the sun?”
If there’s rain and sun, let the rainbow come !
My Rain Shield Behind the Green Door I Watch Gdansk with Rain and Sun; Delicious!
Things suddenly turn upside down in Gdansk, it’s sunny now
The weather in the city has really changed with the sun and rainbow. Those depressing houses have turned into bright spring colors, now It’s time to wander the streets and take photos a lot.
The Rainbow Has Arrived Can I Pass Such An Unforgettable Moment Without A Photograph? This Is The Back Side
Gdansk’s Islands
I set foot on one of Gdansk’s islands from the Green Bridge in front of the Green Gate. I say island, but it is a part of the city I say so only because rivers run on both sides.
This is also a very touristic area, but it is under construction for now, that catches my attention the most. lots of mobile sweet sellers I see around. Poland’s sugary pastry desserts are in vain, definitely try it!
Here’s the Island for You Just Kidding The River Divides A Wonderful Street I Discovered, Find It “Poland’s Candy Sweets pastry desserts of all kinds”
“The cafes of this city are very nice”
I want to have a snack and rest now. Şso that I can have a little view so that I can both fill my stomach and watch the city
Eat a great boutique pancake shop called “Pan Kejk” on the Long Market I came. There is everything to eat and drink here, and you won’t believe the prices. I got a great sandwich, salad and unlimited coffee for only 15-20 zloty.
I Need to Have a Rest and Eat Something / “Pakejk” Gdansk
Time to enjoy sunny Gdansk. I pass the Golden Gate at the upper end of the Long Market and open to the modern part of the city.
There is a triumphal arch-like gate and another historical building behind the Golden Gate.. You have now reached the wide streets of Gdansk here.
Gdansk Became Another Beautiful When The Sun Comes Out The Golden Gate I Just Mentioned Gdansk Houses Also Shine Differently!
A Little Out of the City, The Environment Is Different
There is a huge modern shopping mall right across the street. It is also possible to see socialist-style buildings when you go to a little bit further in the city. Gdansk dates back to different historical periods. It is a city that has witnessed it too.
I am now finishing my sightseeing in Gdansk.. You might think that this city is an atmospheric place anyway, and all its streets and avenues are special in general, so I say go everywhere
The Other Side of the Golden Gate and the Starting Point of the Modern City, The Shopping Center Just Opposite the Long Market , Trams and Wide Streets A Little Beyond the Shrin You Can See These Types of Buildings Now Some Gdansk Travel Tips!
