Graz Travel Guide: A City You Know, You Love

Published

on

A new Austria trip, this time exploring several different regions, will interestingly rise to the level of expertise in Austria, and we will very likely know this place better than Turkey.. Now we do not know whether they will give us a state medal or a house from somewhere.. In fact, we used to use it together as a timeshare.. All in all Vienna is ok. Salzburg ok. Hallstatt ok. Now? Of course Graz. Second largest city in the country. At the same time, we can describe it as another Austrian city that the Ottomans tried to besiege several times and did not succeed.

A boy we met in Salzburg asked, “So what are you going to do from here?” It takes like 5 minutes to tell the boy we are going to Graz when he asks. Can’t say Graz correctly. We were going to say gğraaatzz. No? And we don’t even know yet that we’re going to get even more angry with this kid in a few days.. He calls Graz “Austria’s Las Vegas”. We say Ooh, I guess that’s going to be pretty fun and tiring. As if the existence of all the places to visit is not enough, now we will go after nightlife and stuff.. A second case of Vienna…Besides being the second largest city in the country, it will probably be more lively than Salzburg.. And then? Then we realize that this kid is a big maniac. As in many cities, the crazy of these places would of course find us again.. Just like the crazy street musician who tripped and attacked İdil in Amsterdam saying “WE ARE LOOKING AT HOW MUCH MONEY I COLLECTED”, this boy was almost programmed to make us sick.. Because despite being the second largest city, with a population of around 310,000, this city is so calm, so stagnant that you find it hard to believe that you are in a “student city” full of universities.. Where are these people? Which Las Vegas are you talking about bro?

The conclusion you need to deduce from what we mentioned above is definitely not something like Graz is “boring”. We wanted to tell you from the very beginning what a place Graz is not like.. This isn’t a mega-city to party wildly, overcrowded. Yes, there are many things to do, many places to see, and thanks to its calmness, the city gives you the opportunity to focus primarily on these experiences.. If you want, you can sit calmly in a park, you can collapse on the bank in front of a building you fall in love with, or you can extend your coffee break for 1 more hour if you want.. As people destined to live in the chaos of the city, you cannot believe the pleasure of being able to slow down a little in the middle of Europe! In fact, Graz has all the features of a typical European city.. The streets are empty after 9 pm on weekdays, the density of Turkish taxi drivers, an extremely well preserved (one of the best preserved in Europe) Old Town district and neat, charming streets where you will be struck by its architecture.. Moreover, this city is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, has been declared the European Capital of Culture, has been chosen as the capital of flavor, and is the City of Design.. Queen of the Andals, the Seven Kingdoms, the Rhoynaar and the Mother of Dragons titles will probably be taken away from Khaalesi soon.

*Note before we begin: What we wrote above does not apply to Erasmus students.. We tried to summarize what you can feel as part of a touristic trip for a few days.. You know, an Erasmus student parties in every city, discovers the funniest places in every city, has fun everywhere. Praise to Erasmus…………

*To Graz Tourismus and dear Susanne Höller we are grateful to. Heart to heart.

Graz Travel Guide: When to Go to Graz?

Actually, you can always go to Graz. Although we don’t know if it’s not cold anymore, it seems like you can always go to any city unless there is a hurricane or something, that’s a separate issue.. However, based on our personal preferences, we can make the following suggestion: Go to Graz in autumn. Because it is a very green and visually beautiful city, we can go in September-October and see the city in its autumn colors. it can affect you a lot. In addition, if you will go without being exposed to the filthy cold of Central Europe, you will have snow with you, and you will have a wonderful interim period where you can travel without freezing and getting bored.. Yes, you can be a “coat me” once in a while (kisses to Umut Sarıkaya lovers) because the air temperature, which rises to 20 degrees during the day, can drop to 5-6 degrees in the evening and surprise your body.. But still, our favorite season is definitely autumn.

*While talking about when to go to Graz, let’s not forget how long it would be logical to stay in Graz for a touristic trip.. Because then we don’t want you to go and stay for 5 days and go crazy.. 2-3 days will definitely be enough for this place. We can also say that we should get up and leave when you can combine the feeling of “what if we go to a different place for this weekend” with a cheap flight ticket.

Is Graz Expensive?

We wouldn’t call Graz a particularly expensive city, but it wouldn’t be right to say that it is an affordable city.. You know, if we are going to an alternative city, there is a thought that the prices will be somewhat more affordable, you will have to put it aside here.. Sad but true. As an example for you, we can make a list based on the places we eat and drink:

-Water: Drinking from the tap. Put your money in your pocket dear.

-3. Coffee at Wave Coffee Shops: 3-4 Euros

-Eggs Benedict/Scrambled Egg-like breakfast at cafes: 4.5 – 7 Euros

-Main course in an average/good restaurant: 9-16 Euros (valid for high price meat)

-Cocktails in a popular bar: 4-9 Euros

Some of the museums and attractions that we will describe below and that you may want to visit are within the scope of the Universalmuseum Joanneum. (such as Styrian Armory, Kunsthaus, Schloss Eggenberg, Neue Galerie, Museum im Palais)) For this reason, they have made a general card that you can buy to enter all these museums and it is definitely something that will lighten your budget, not a tourist trap. The 24-hour version is 13 Euros, the 48-hour version is 19 Euros.. When you go to any of these museums, you can get tickets from the place where you buy tickets.

Graz Travel Guide: A Problem of Transportation in Graz

Difficulty in reaching Graz No, because there is a direct flight from Turkey and you find yourself in Graz in about 2.5 hours.. So everything is easy enough.

You are not likely to have any problems with transportation from Graz Airport to Graz city center.. You can use bus or taxi. If you are going by bus, you can go to the bus stop that will appear when you exit the terminal and reach Jakominiplatz, the main station of the city, for a fee of 2,20 Euro.. If you’re going to use a taxi, it costs something around 18-20 Euros, it can be considered if you are a few people. Since most of the taxi drivers are Turkish, maybe you can negotiate for 15 Euros or something, we say give it a try.. If it’s been a long time since you went to Büyükada and tried to cycle, and you couldn’t get enough of your enthusiasm, it’s time to make a new attempt here.

Graz Travel Guide: Accommodation in Graz

We are dying of love for Hotel Wiesler, the hotel we stayed at in Graz, friends. We loved their room so much, we liked the style so much that it is fair to say that we got cold from our own house, our own room, we have been praising Wiesler since we returned.. It also holds an important place in Graz’s history, we will describe it below.. Of course, the beauty of the rooms or the hotel is not the only reason we recommend this place to you.. It is also at a very good location in terms of location and within walking distance of many points in the city that you might want to explore.. We strongly recommend it.

Graz Travel Guide: Places to Visit in Graz

If we approach it from a typical tourist point of view, here are the places to visit in Graz. We can conclude that the number of. But of course we won’t approach it that way.. Are we tourists, friends, what does it matter? In our opinion, the beauty of Graz is hidden in its details.. If you don’t approach it with this logic, you will be one of those people who visit a cathedral and two squares of every small city they visit and then say “it’s a 1-day city lölölölö”. Don’t!

Before we talk about the places to visit in Graz in detail, let’s talk about this place a little bit so that you can get to know and understand the city.. Don’t run away just because you saw a long paragraph, we’re not going to say it’s boring, let go of that mouse.

There is a river that divides Graz in two: Mur River. You may have envisioned this river as something like the gentle flowing rivers you encounter in other European cities, but it is not! On the contrary, we are talking about a river that flows like maniacs, and even in the middle of the city in the summer, there are people who try to surf on this river.. Already, the Old Town region is largely shaped around this river.. We say water is life, we don’t say it for nothing. For many years, one side of the city (where Hauptplatz is) was a walled part where the nobles, the rich, and those who could not find bread to eat cake lived.. The other side of Mur (where Hotel Wiesler is) is the side where the poor, homeless, prostitutes live and as you can imagine, these places are not sheltered at all.. The merchants and vendors who came to the city also stayed on this side, mostly at the Hotel Wiesler, and crossed the only bridge in the city in the mornings to sell to the other side.. Today, of course, both sides of the city are back to normal.. That “less safe” side has already been taken over by hipsters with a passion for white sneakers, as well as an assortment of restaurants and shops.. Towards Mariahilferplatz and Lendplatz, one or two places that leave the brothel can be encountered, but this should not cause any misunderstanding, these are the heart of the city and extremely safe.. So don’t think that you went to the back streets of Aksaray, you will understand when you see it.. We will tell you a lot of places to visit in this area below.. The Old Town area, on the other hand, is considered one of the best preserved old city areas in Europe and many points you will visit are located here.. Now, back to our Graz Travel Guide.

*Hauptplatz

Every city has a main square, this one is Hauptplatz. We used to call it the most touristic square, but don’t expect dozens of cafes around that classic square as it is not a very touristic city.. But you can expect to see a large statue in the middle of the square and the magnificent Rathaus, or city hall, rising right next to it.. Or Asian tourists who live by looking at life from the camera’s frame… This is also the main square where the merchants we talked about in the old times came and sold their products.. This is the square where people were executed and important announcements were made… Today, it is one of the most central points of the city, but it continues to exist as a square in the middle of which demonstrations take place, where modern era merchants set up stands and sell.. In summary, it might be a good idea to start your exploration of the Old Town from this square.

-One of the buildings that might catch your attention on Hauptplatz is that interesting building with embroidered reliefs on it.. When you look carefully, you will notice that the motifs that look like this embroidery are images of flowers and fruits.. The building now houses the Swarovski Boutique Graz. If you have come here with your marriage addicted lover or something, do not panic and leave calmly without any reaction…..

*Sporgasse

Ready Hauptplatz’ If you come to the above-mentioned Swarovski Building, you will find yourself in Sporgasse.. This is one of the main streets of the Old Town.. You can see many shops and boutiques on it.. If you follow the slope, you can explore this area in more detail by entering the interior of the Old Town.. Also, if you look at the hills of Palais Saurau at number 25, you will see a Turk holding a machete. (You know, we’re used to Turks with machetes lately, you know) Thank God the story of this is cute too: While a senior Ottoman soldier was having a meal in this building during one of the periods when the Turks were trying to besiege this place, a cannon was fired by the Schlossberg towards this place.. When the ball hit the spot where our Turks were, the piece of meat on the man’s plate jumped out of the window.. As one of the man’s soldiers jumped out the window to catch the meat, he tripped over the window and just stood there.. And now he continues to watch the people of Graz through that window.. Dear…

*Herrengasse

As people who set out from Turkey, we have to compare every place to a point from Turkey, so this place is also immediately We compare it to that certain place you can imagine: İstiklal Caddesi. All kinds of shops, cafes, boutiques, all on Herrengasse. Already one end of this place connects to Hauptplatz, which we mentioned above, so you can walk in this direction while you’re at the square.. In our opinion, the biggest event of Herrengasse is the Landhaus Courtyard located at number 16.. Landhaus, one of the most beautiful courtyards you can come across in Graz, which is famous for its courtyards, is a full photograph.. While you’re at this street, don’t forget to go and have a look.

*Schlossberg Hill

Schlossberg Hill was named after this hill 1000 years ago. from the castle that was built. According to what we heard, the castle, which was located here at the time, even entered the Guinness Book of Records as “the strongest castle ever”.. So much so that even Napoleon could not take this place, but when they entered the city, they plundered this place so much, only various ruins, the bell and the clock tower remained from the huge structure, thank God the clock tower remained, because it has turned into an extremely beautiful and iconic structure.. In fact, the existence of the hill is quite interesting, because we are talking about a 473-meter-high hill in the middle of the city, we can say that it is a wonderful opportunity to do “I looked at you from above, dear Graz”, a pure tourist activity.

-The above mentioned clock tower is one of Graz’s landmarks. But there is a strange thing about the clock: The hour hand is bigger than the minute hand! That’s why most of them prefer not to use this giant clock tower to check the local time.. Who will use the clock tower on the top to look at the clock anyway?. (note to ourselves and to you: find out why these dials are called hour and minute hands). It felt weird when I wrote it)

-There are several different ways to get to Schlossberg, our suggestion is to use the elevator. For a price of 1.50 Euros and in less than 1 minute, you get to a point right next to the clock tower.. In addition, the view of the stairs at the point where you will take the elevator is very beautiful, it is a full photograph, you can not miss it.

*Kunsthaus Graz

There is the “other side of the river”, we can say that the Kunsthaus is the building that revitalizes this area and transforms it into a hip district.. The Kunsthaus, which is one of the strangest structures you can see in Europe, with its type that can be compared to 23469 kinds of things from octopus legs to crocodile skin, is currently used as the city’s modern art museum.. The building, which takes on a completely different view at night, draws attention with its light installations that will blow your mind, as it is covered with hundreds of tiny lights.. Don’t miss the building, also known as the “Friendly Alien”, visit the modern art museum, collapse into its very popular cafe, and go up to the top floor and have a look at Graz from here.

– If you want to look at Kunsthaus from above and take a detailed look at it, it is very well observed from the Schlossberg Hill, we can recommend it.. That hill is going to be climbed, the friend, Çare Schlossberg. a lot of things he keeps asking from here. (Oh god damn it)

-The museum is closed on Monday. Other days open from 10:00 to 17:00. Entry is €9.

*Künstlerhaus

Künstlerhaus is an independent exhibition space. It emerged when 4 different contemporary art institutions formed Voltron and joined forces, and they come to the fore with their periodical exhibitions.. If you have time, you can make your way here by checking the current exhibitions on this site.. For example, when we were in Graz, “Yes, but is it Performable? A group exhibition called ‘Investigating the Performative Paradox’ was being held. Within the scope of this exhibition, which will last for approximately 1 month, several different works are added to the exhibition every Wednesday, and more interactive presentations/works were carried out within the scope of the exhibition on the day the works were added.. Nezaket Ekici was also a part of this group exhibition, but we missed it because we couldn’t match it in terms of timing.. Therefore, based on our story with a sad ending, let us remind you once again that if you are interested, you should definitely check the program before you go.

-Burgring 2. closed on monday. Open until 20:00 on Thursdays.

*Murinsel

Murinsel is a strange building on the Mur River. In fact, we can also describe it as an artificial island.. Because even though it looks like a building placed on a very modern looking bridge at first glance, you will realize that it is actually a mechanical island in contact with water.. We’re talking about a Star Wars abandoned architecture.. You don’t need to be content with looking at this islet, which was built in 2003 when Graz was selected as the “European Capital of Culture”, you can enter it and spend time in its cafe.. There is also an amphitheater inside, who knows, maybe you’ll come across an event or something, it’s bad?. Since there is another bridge right next to it, do not forget to see how it looks over that bridge at night.

*Lendplatz and Its Surroundings

Hipster’ run, we found something. We’re on the other side of the Old Town again, wandering the streets again. This time we have dear David with us, he tells us that “other side”. If you’re after a more alternative trip to Graz, your area is Lendplatz and its environs. When we say around, it starts from the street behind Hotel Wiesler, which we can now consider as our pole star, and extends to Mariahilferplatz, where various festivals are held every year and a magnificent church rises, and from there to Lendplatz and the streets connecting here. we are talking about the region. While this area, whose history we have told above, was mostly settled by immigrants and working class (people from Yugoslavia and of course, Turks), it was a place slightly abandoned by Red Light, today the creative and productive area of Graz has become a small hipsterland.. In the language of Berlin lovers, we can say Neukölln of Graz in the evolution process.. There are many small boutiques, collective workplaces, cafes and restaurants in the surrounding area.. There is also a market in Lendplatz, which has been established for many years (Mon-Sat until 13:00), where only products grown in and around Graz are sold by local producers.. The most crowded day is Saturday mornings, maybe you want to mingle with the people and pretend you can speak German.

-We explored this region with luck David, who is the sweetest of the world. We tried many places, drank nice drinks, tasted local dishes, shared many details that we might miss, (in fact, all the information we explained above at the entrance), a lot of interesting information about the city with us, and walked for hours without getting bored.. If you want to explore these places with David, you can message him on the Facebook page. Rest assured, it will be a very enjoyable experience, we recommend it not as a friend, but because we think you will really like it.

*Neue Galerie Graz

After 1945 Another important art gallery with works by Austrian and international artists, Neue Galerie. Inside, you can encounter not only painting, but also sculpture, photography and video works.. If you’re wondering, let’s clarify, yes, there are also works by Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt.. But if you miss the opportunity to meet new artists just because we will see them, we will not forgive you, we will break your heart…

-Closed Monday. Other days open from 10:00 to 17:00. Entry is 9 Euros.

*Eggenberg Palace

You are in Austria, of course, a palace will pop up from somewhere.. Eggenberg star of Graz. This palace, which makes the man question the house he lives in, and say, “People have just woken up here, where do I start the day, friend”, it’s like this palace was built to annoy you, because its architecture is so beautiful! The 12 doors of the palace represent the months and the 365 windows represent the days.. You are so fascinated when you pass through the gardens until you reach the palace, you are in such a fashion that you may shout “GUARDS” and walk fast or something.. It is possible to visit the interior of the palace, its magnificent courtyard and some of its rooms.. However, you can only visit some rooms with guided tours.. Don’t worry, these tours take place almost every day.

-This is a little bit outside the city. You can reach the tram line 1 and get off at Schloss Eggenberg stop in 15 minutes.. After that, it’s a 4-5 minute walk from the station.. When you take the stop behind you and look right, dive into the street where you see the Eggenberg sign.

In Short…

*One of Graz’s most famous buildings since 1899 imposingly towering Oper Graz, the city’s opera house. Architecturally different inside and beautiful outside, Serdar Ortaç writes a song. If you have time, maybe you can take a look at the program, and you will have a tour of the interior.. (How did we relate the subject to Serdar Ortaç when we were talking about the opera)

*If you like to visit religious buildings, Graz Cathedral is located in Burggasse 3. It is possible to visit the inside of it free of charge.

*If you have a passion for diving into city parks like us, and grabbing your food and drinks when you find nice weather, you can stop by Stadtpark.. Take some nuts or peanuts with you while you’re at it, because there are about 100 squirrels living in the park, apart from those who do sports and spend time in the park.. The number of squirrels in the park is decreasing day by day, are we ready to keep the existing ones alive like kings? WE EXIST. (and a tear falls from your eyes…..)

* If you can’t get enough of learning something new about Graz, you can also stop by the Graz Museum. If you go to this museum as well, you will now come very close to being a maniac who knows Graz better than those who live in Graz.. I think we have come to that point, this pride is all of us………

*If you are one of those who pursue street art in the cities you visit, first of all, we congratulate you because, like us, you know how difficult it is to find them. and you know it takes maniacal research. It’s hard to find, but if the expected day will come, CHEQILEN ÇİLE QUTSALDR…… (was it like this) There aren’t many murals in Graz. When you search, you will see that most of the sources tell you to go to the “Tagger Arena”. We didn’t have enough time, but when you look at the photos, it looks like there are some pretty good works.. Maybe if you have time, you can go and have a look?

*If you are interested in sculpture, Austrian Sculpture Park may be of interest to you.. We are talking about a giant sculpture park with more than 60 sculptures made by local and international artists.. Let us remind you that it is open between April – October and between 10:00-20:00, if you go and find it closed, do not curse us.. (Thalerhofstrasse 85)

Graz Travel Guide: The Issue of Eating and Drinking in Graz

We agree, we are not a fan of Austrian cuisine. But just because you’re in Austria, you don’t have to eat schnitzel and dance in potato salad from morning to night, Graz is a city that offers you many options for eating and drinking.. Since we ate and drank more than we visited, of course, we will heap up where to eat, where to drink, and now you can make choices.

By the way, Graz is a true paradise for vegans and vegetarians, because there are many places to meet your expectations in the city. there are many restaurants. In fact, 11% of Austrians are vegetarian and 1% are vegan, that’s all! I think we may have missed a bit on this subject, we suggest you do a separate research on that subject, there are good options.

*Der Steirer:
A very popular restaurant with a focus on Austrian cuisine. But fear not, they won’t be able to beat the schnitzel again. There is a tapas concept as well as main courses here.. They have small tapas plates that they create from Austrian cuisine.. Each plate is 2 euro, you can try everything by making something mixed up.. we liked it a lot. They also sell a variety of wines, check out their shop section. (Belgiergasse 1)

*Speisesaal: This is Hotel Wiesler’s restaurant. However, do not think that you will be locked in the upper floor just because it is inside the hotel, it is open to visitors on the ground floor and from the outside.. It’s pretty popular too. You can stop by for brunch or for dinner.

*Freigeist: If you like burgers, you lived, because the burgers here are really good.. You choose your own bread and sauces. Of course, you also know how to cook your meat.. We vouch for the one with Blue Cheese and Cheese Burger, good luck. (Klosterwiesgasse 2)

*Tribeka:
Tribeka is a popular coffee shop in Graz. If you want, you can grab your coffee in a cardboard cup and wander around, or you can go for a quick breakfast consisting of a croissant-coffee duo.. It can be quite crowded as those who go to work in the morning also flock to it.. (Grieskai 2)

*Brot & Spiele: When you see this place from the outside, you can say, “For God’s sake, did they suggest us this place”. STOP. Don’t say. Why? First, locals love it, secondly, locals know something.. Their burgers are good, the beer variety is plentiful and there are billiards, darts etc.. There are also things that are extra fun to drink, such as. The visual may not be spectacular, but it’s fun with students swarming in the evenings.. (Mariahilferstrasse 17)

*Kunsthaus Cafe: The unpretentious dessert cafe of our odd-looking Kunsthaus. Also very popular with locals. You can go for breakfast, lunch, tea, coffee break or dessert, whatever your purpose is.

*Cafe Mitte: It has a nice environment and an area to sit outside. place. We went here for a cocktail in the evening, but as we understand, they are also famous for Thai cuisine.. A definite stop for an evening. (Freiheitzplatz 2)

*Cafe Promenade:
Cafe Promenade is a perfect spot if you want to have a longer breakfast. Scrambled eggs, eggs benedict etc. There are breakfast options that can be a savior in Europe. (yes, we find breakfasts in Europe lousy) It is also a good point to start your trip as it is close to the park, the cathedral and the Künsterhaus.. (Erzherjog – Johann Allee 1)

*Die Süße Luise: Small and sweet place at Lendplatz. Their breakfast, whose name is something like “eggplant tower”, is legendary and delicious! They also make desserts with fresh products from the market in Lendplatz every day.

*Blendend: Another popular and lovable place preferred by locals especially for brunch. We went here for a drink for some reason, the atmosphere was pretty sweet too.. There are two separate sections for smoking and non-smoking.. If you do not smoke, do not expose yourself to that smoke.. Smoking kills. Social message National Anthem and closing. (Mariahilferstrasse 24)

*Ducks Coffee Shop:
A cafe where you can work for those who live here, a coffee shop where you can find quality coffee and take it home for those who don’t. We loved it, you love it, go. They also make Turkish coffee, there are even Turkish coffee cups with embroidered motifs, it will attract your attention.. (Raubergasse 14)

*Buna Espresso: 3 that one of us loves their coffee and the other doesn’t. wave coffee maker. Now we don’t know whose side you’re on, but let’s add that the barista is an award-winning. Also, their barista is the patient of the Coffee Festival in Turkey, so our blood boiled, I don’t know what happened, we were going to hug while saying goodbye. (You will take my side, sorry İdil……..) (Schmiedgasse 11)

*Aiola: The restaurant you will encounter when you go up to Schlossberg. However, we came to the touristic place, do not think that we should not eat here because it is a very popular place.. If you went out at noon, you can solve a meal here.

Ouzo’s Birthplace Plomari, Mytilene

Published

on

By

Greece‘s greenest island Lesbos owes its green nature to water resources. Lesbos, the third largest island of the country, has lush forests, water springs, tiny canyons, endemic plants and incredible mountain views.

The island’s second largest city, Plomari, is and places that manage to stay away from the negative effects of urbanization due to its geographical location.. When you say the second largest city of the island, Plomari is not a city-like place.. The size that we can call the largest town or seaside resort in Turkey.. With its scattering mountain villages, the population of 7 thousand finds it difficult.

Plomari Square

With its pristine beaches, historical wooden houses, small taverns, plane and olive trees, coffee houses and views, Plomari journey is one of the best options to get away from it all.. No matter how crowded and active the center of Lesbos is, Plomari experiences the opposite.

The birthplace of Barbaros

As Captain-i Derya, the first captain of the Ottoman Empire Barbaros Hayrettin Pasha, who was the pasha and the great admiral, was born in Plomari in 1473.. Although there is no trace of Barbaros in Plomari, this name is very important for the history of the seafaring town.

Akrasi, Ampeliko, Megalohori, Neohori, Paleohori, which is known as Plomaritohoria on the south coast of Lesbos The town, consisting of the villages of Plagia, Trigonas, has a strategic location.. Dominating Chios in Greece and Karaburun in Izmir, the town has a deep-rooted trade tradition.

Beautiful photos can be taken in the side streets of Plomari

The place where ouzo and olive oil soap were first produced

strong>

Within the Greek islands, 19. Turning into one of the most important centers of industry, commerce, production and maritime trade in the mid-century, Plomari is also the place where the Greek national drink ouzo was first produced.. Today, just like raki, the quality of ouzo is measured by the water used.. Since Plomari has the best quality drinking water sources in the geography of Greece, the aroma it adds to ouzo is noticed everywhere.. There is no production today, except for a few ouzo workshops.. Plomari, with its beaches and cultural tourism, is a region where European, American and Turkish tourists spend more time in high season.. Since it is not very well known, the region, which is not crowded and uncomplicated, is ideal for those who want to relax and have a peaceful holiday. Ouzo, which he throws, is consumed in a similar way in coffee houses today.. Drinks thrown together while playing backgammon or chatting with friends accompany the pleasant conversation.. Unlike Turkey, the coffeehouse culture in Greece also includes the offering of liquor.

ouzos produced in Plomari

Because of the ouzo production, it is between Lesbos and Plomari. there is serious competition. What makes the cute town one step ahead of this competition is the quality water source and the qualified anise grown in the region with aromatic plants.. It is possible to count Pitsiladi, Yannaçi, Varvayani and Plomari/Isidoro Arvaniti among the ouzos that have become brands in the town.

Things to do in Plomari

The so-called ‘old town’ in the center of the town, which is one of the oldest settlements on the island, is where you can witness typical Greek architecture.. Two-story, bay window, mostly wooden houses line the narrow streets.. It is essential to enjoy walking among the historical houses on quiet and calm streets without traffic noise and to breathe the atmosphere of the town.

There are many shops, shops and coffee houses around the big plane tree in the city square.. After wandering the streets, it is quite enjoyable to relax, have a drink and chat with the local people.

The beaches, each carrying the blue flag, which are chirpy in the summer season, are an unforgettable experience for those who love sea, sand and sun holidays.. Agios Isidoros Beach is shown among the few beaches not only in the region but also in Greece.

Oceanis Cafe

Make sure to try frappe, one of the cold drinks consumed by the Greeks.. Iced coffee, which is prepared by adding milk and sugar according to preference, is available in cafes and coffee houses in every corner of the town.. One of my suggestions is the Oceanis Cafe, where we sit to drink frappe with its stylish design.. Souffle is around 3€, waffle is around 4€, frappe is around 2€, Turkish (Greek) coffee is around 1.5€.. When you sit in all restaurants and cafes, a large glass of water is offered free of charge.. There are nearly 25 accommodation options in the charming town.. Among these places that can be preferred according to the budget and accommodation concept, there is also a hostel, a luxury studio.. So before you go, decide exactly what kind of place you want to stay.. I stayed at Frini Studios on my trip to Plomari. There is a special 10 percent discount for Keşfetsek at the property that got full marks from me for its hospitality and approach.. Check out my Frini Studios post for discount details and a closer look at the facility.

The Mytilene-Plomari Road

How to get to Plomari

<

Plomari is 42 km from the center of the island of Lesvos.. Due to the nature of the road, this journey takes approximately 50 minutes by private vehicle.. In order to go to this town from Turkey, it is necessary to take a ferry from Ayvalık to Lesbos.. After the ferry ride that takes 1 hour and 15 minutes, the port of Lesbos is reached.. There is a municipal bus service between Mytilene and Plomari that runs 3-4 times a day.. However, without the hassle of the city bus, choose a pleasant journey by renting a car and being included in the nature view.

Plomari with its unspoiled nature, friendly people, historical structures, magnificent beaches, ouzo, olive oil and soap >, one of the most beautiful corners of Lesbos. Those planning a trip to Mytilene should spend a few days in this beautiful town.

Nepal Arrival

Published

on

By

After our tiring and intense trip to India, we got out of the chaos and arrived in Nepal, where we said “oh there is a world”. We had a comfortable journey to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, with a 55-minute flight from Varanasi.. Nepal is 3 hours 20 minutes ahead of Turkey and 15 minutes ahead of India.

From Victoria Subirano’s book named A teacher in Kathmandu so that you can get an idea before you come to Nepal. you can watch the movie “A Mirror in the Sky” which he freely inspired. It is the film that reveals how the education system in Nepal works, poverty and mysticism.

Kathmandu is located in the valley at the confluence of the Vishnumati and Bagmati rivers.. There are dozens of temples hidden between its streets.. While it is difficult to breathe from the exhaust fumes in its narrow streets, it is certain that you will discover many things in the company of colorful shops, peddlers, bookshops and local people.

A blend of 2 religions, It is very possible to see that Buddhism and Hinduism coexist in the country where it is intertwined, and this unity is reflected even in objects and temples.. Whether Buddhist or Hindu, everyone can easily perform their daily rituals according to their religious beliefs.. There are enough temples in the city. Someone who goes to work or wanders around the streets completes his prayer by ringing the bell in the tiny temple on the street and applying the red paint inside the temple to his forehead.. A person who has prayed has red paint on his forehead. When you see this, know that that person has prayed. Let’s not forget that the main element of flower worship. During the worship we witnessed in temples, they offer flowers to their gods and light candles.

We were surprised that the fruits we ate did not taste salty, although agriculture is the livelihood of the country.. Especially when we say that the banana is disgusting that we have not eaten in our life, we say it’s like straw, we ate a banana that tasted just like that.. We got our Nepal visa quickly and very easily at the airport for 25 USD (15 days). They came to meet us because our hotel had a pick-up service.. We arrived at our hotel without the need to take a taxi.

We wrote the details and places we visited in separate sections to be more descriptive.

But first, let’s list the must-haves and some information you need to know for those who are considering coming to Nepal:

Take a mask. Too much air pollution in the city. If you don’t want to walk in dust and smoke, take your mask.
Bring walking shoes. The roads are very bad and dusty.. If you don’t want your nails to get dirty, wear sneakers.
Those who come to Nepal by plane should get a free map from the airport.. The map you will get from the hotels is not very descriptive and guiding.
Visit the bookstores in the Thamel area. There is a wide variety of books, magazines and many products for anyone interested in books, not just travelers.
Buy LP-Nepal. If not, you can find it in Thamel.. But those who do not want to buy definitely need a guide in the temple areas.. But for me, the temples and the figures carved on the temple do not mean anything, if you only want to take pictures of them, you do not even need a guide.. They charge up to 100 rs from tourists, don’t give more than 25 rs. For your information! Locals don’t like discounts in Kathmandu.
. If you are going to shop, know that they sell you exponentially more expensive.
Although not everywhere, 25% tax is charged in many restaurants and cafes.
Have dinner at Northfield Restaurant in the Thamel area.. There will be a pleasant dinner next to a cozy wood fire accompanied by Nepali music.

Entrance fee to all Durbar squares.
Kathmandu Durbar Square : 750 rs.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square : 1100 rs.
Patan Durbar Square : 500 rs.

Eat jujudhav yogurt in Bhaktapur. We should have paid 25 rs for 3 yogurts, but because we are tourists we paid 150 rs

Eat Daal Bhaat. It’s like Indian Thali.

Eat Momo. A dish resembling a tibetan dumpling. Vegetable, buffalo meat, chicken options are available. A little spicy and bitter.

During the time we were in Kathmandu, we made kora in Buddhist temples, translated mantras and sent our wishes to the universe in the fastest way, we worshiped according to God in Hindu temples :), We photographed the most beautiful examples of Newari architecture, followed closely the funerals of the cremated dead in accordance with Hinduism, practiced their rituals, respectively, Svayambhu Mahachaitya (Monkey Temple) temple, Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Bhaktapur, Changu Narayan Temple, Kathmandu and Patan Durbar Squares. Gdansk Travel Notes: Better Than Poland!

Published

By

There are some places that I came across somewhere and noted down and I couldn’t wait to go… Here is such a special route for me in Gdansk

I have been on my master’s degree for almost a year. Since I live in Brescia, Italy, I plan to visit various cities in Europe in combination.. I chose Gdansk first and said I’d go to Norway from here, to Alesund…

Gdansk Overview / Famous “Pencil Houses” of the City

My Plane Could Not Land in Gdansk

Here come the time, I went to Alesund and even got on the plane to Gdansk on the way back!

Oh what a plane ride…

While getting on I knew there was 55 km/h wind in Gdansk but I guessed it would be okay. But we couldn’t land on our first try, it passed, the plane was rocking like a cradle!

I Shared Those Moments We Couldn’t Land in Gdansk on Instagram @gorkemliyollarcom

An airstrip I was on for the first time in my life he had to pass, luckily the pilot managed to land in Gdansk on our second attempt…

It wasn’t a very good start, but I’m welcome Poland

Trying to go to Gdansk Glowny <

Finally Gdansk!

If the plane landed so hard, you should also think below, it’s as if I don’t come from the Norwegian fjords but went there, it’s so cold, wind, rain all together…

Since I got off at 10 pm anyway, I’m in trouble to go to my hostel and sleep You can actually reach the center directly from Gdansk Walesa airport by bus. But the buses after 11 o’clock leave at a different station called Wrzeszcz, and from there you reach the central Gdansk Glowny train station by commuter train.

That’s exactly how I got to the city and my hostel, but thanks to the Polish, who helped me while I was waiting for the bus. Thanks to a college couple…

Hello Gdansk / My First View in the City / Going to a Hostel

About Gdansk

Good morning from Gdanks!

This is Poland’ A city located on the Baltic Sea in the north of. Actually I visited all the Baltic countries and I loved it very much, but they said to Gdansk that this is Poland, you are not exactly Baltic

I mean this is Poland but Gdansk I think It’s even more beautiful than Poland…

Morning Hours / Walking By Motlawa

I’ve visited the capital Warsaw before, but now Gdansk is getting me pretty excited, let’s see what we’ll see…

Since my hostel is located at the northern end of the city, I also start walking from the riverside towards the center.

Yes, Gdansk is a typical Baltic city… I say that this city also has islands, rivers and plenty of water

strong>

Too Much Wind, But Not Without a Selfie

The Spirit of Gdansk: Motlawa River

Our River is Motlawa!

If I follow the Motlawa river, Gdansk’ It means I can almost completely tour the city. Because the city consists of this city and the small islands it surrounds.

First of all, when I come across a beautiful Gdansk text, she says OK. um I’m in the right place…

I Love Those City Names You Must See Me To Understand The Wind…

The Famous Cute Pencil Houses of Gdansk

The first thing I want to tell you in Gdansk is actually Houses that make up the unique architecture of this city.

In fact, although you can see similar ones in other cities of Germany and Poland in general, the ones here are more characteristic.. Thin and long, crooked, colorful houses like pencils!

Famous Pencil Houses of Gdansk / I Found This Name If I Found It In The Sun From The Tip, A Selfie Immediately…

And to the bottom aren’t they built?

Sweetly narrowing the top floors…

I admit that I saw the aerial view of these house-filled streets and fell in love with Gdansk and I thought I should see it. . Yes, maybe I won’t be able to see it from the air, but I’ll still see it.

“The top floors, which narrow down sweetly…”

There Could Be A Modern Building Without Destroying The City!

But here it is one thing to visit and see another photo of it.. The photos did not have modern siblings of these typical Gdansk houses either!

Yes, as a civil engineer, I noticed the modern buildings in Gdansk from the very first minute. Because the modern structures here are “we are modern” They don’t smirk They went and built with a nice modern interpretation of architecture similar to their old brothers.

I can’t say I’m not impressed with this work, Gdansk can still be visited after 50 years…

Modern Gdansk Houses I Like Very Much, There Are Some More Futuristic As Well… These Also Provided a Nice Transition / Modern-Old

Is Crane One Of The Attractions In Gdansk?

Now by the riverside While walking on the promenade called “Deptak Nadwodny”, I see one of the first things that come to mind when I think of places to visit in Gdansk.

What is that Crane?

Interesting place in Gdansk Crane The River And The Crane Look Better Here

Yes “Crane” is one of the interesting structures in Gdansk. This used to be a crane building used to load ships. If I said old, of course.. century is quite old The original state is destroyed, but the current one is worth seeing.

There is the Black Pearl of the pirates of the caribbean a little further ahead, there are nice photos, try it here…

Black Pearl is also here <

Like the Harry Potter Scene: Mariacka Street!

I’m diving down the river into Mariacka Street now

Mariacka at first sight became my favorite place in this city!

I feel like I’m on the street where I’m going to choose a wand for Hogwarts. “Hagrid, where do we get the wand?”

Can it be without a photo Mariacka Street

In Gdansk, you can feel an interestingly slightly British air; mysterious buildings painted in a depressing style, staircases in front of houses small courtyards and magnificent artistic details…

These small courtyard houses on Mariacka Street are boutique shops! Local products, gifts or jewellery, whatever you are looking for. All meticulously furnished with excellent details, this place can be studied for a few hours.

Magnets Here from the Map Detailed Shops in Mariacka Are So Sweet

Across the river side of the street, the huge St.. Mary’s Church…

Undoubtedly, it is one of the most magnificent buildings in the city, you can go inside and have a look at it.. Mary’s Church Is Also Visible

The Rain Follows Me

Just at that moment I’m being caught in the rain!

If it rains, I have a solution; raincoat and my umbrella…

Now it’s time where the heart of Gdansk beats; Long Sunday!

Long Sunday With Shaking Rain

Long Sunday

Long Sunday ie Długi Targ is a classic Polish style market-square. I don’t know why these guys built such thin and long squares, but it happened

As the name suggests, this is a long market area. If I said market, it means small peddlers and generally the shops lined up along the square, better if I say square…

Long Market / Długi Targ

You can see the most beautiful of the typical cute pencil houses of Gdansk that I mentioned in the Long Market.. The ones here are a little more historical and have wonderful decorations.

Also, I think the most eye-catching structure of the square is Gdansk Town Hall.

Gdansk Town Hall with its golden inlaid tower and legendary beauty. The clock may be the most magnificent structure in this city!

The Long Market and the Magnificent Gdansk Town Hall

Gdansk, the City of Gates

My market is at one end of the street, the Golden Gate is at the riverside end there is also the Green Door…

I forgot to mention; Gdansk is the city of gates

You can often see these gates in the old city centre.. It is generally built like 2-3 storey private buildings and has arch-shaped openings from the inside and you enter and exit the square and the street from there.. Especially the Golden Gate is another beautiful one, don’t miss it…

I’ll be visiting soon The Golden Gate / The surprise is gone! The Sun Is Clearly Opening The Gates of Gdansk: This Green Gate by the River

Is it a Rainbow?

And these gates are rain shields for me! Because I’m stuck at the door leading to the river from Long Market, it’s raining heavily

But a few minutes later, “the sun?”

If there’s rain and sun, let the rainbow come !

My Rain Shield Behind the Green Door I Watch Gdansk with Rain and Sun; Delicious!

Things suddenly turn upside down in Gdansk, it’s sunny now

The weather in the city has really changed with the sun and rainbow. Those depressing houses have turned into bright spring colors, now It’s time to wander the streets and take photos a lot.

The Rainbow Has Arrived Can I Pass Such An Unforgettable Moment Without A Photograph? This Is The Back Side

Gdansk’s Islands

I set foot on one of Gdansk’s islands from the Green Bridge in front of the Green Gate. I say island, but it is a part of the city I say so only because rivers run on both sides.

This is also a very touristic area, but it is under construction for now, that catches my attention the most. lots of mobile sweet sellers I see around. Poland’s sugary pastry desserts are in vain, definitely try it!

Here’s the Island for You Just Kidding The River Divides A Wonderful Street I Discovered, Find It “Poland’s Candy Sweets pastry desserts of all kinds”

“The cafes of this city are very nice”

I want to have a snack and rest now. Şso that I can have a little view so that I can both fill my stomach and watch the city

Eat a great boutique pancake shop called “Pan Kejk” on the Long Market I came. There is everything to eat and drink here, and you won’t believe the prices. I got a great sandwich, salad and unlimited coffee for only 15-20 zloty.

I Need to Have a Rest and Eat Something / “Pakejk” Gdansk

Time to enjoy sunny Gdansk. I pass the Golden Gate at the upper end of the Long Market and open to the modern part of the city.

There is a triumphal arch-like gate and another historical building behind the Golden Gate.. You have now reached the wide streets of Gdansk here.

Gdansk Became Another Beautiful When The Sun Comes Out The Golden Gate I Just Mentioned Gdansk Houses Also Shine Differently!

A Little Out of the City, The Environment Is Different

There is a huge modern shopping mall right across the street. It is also possible to see socialist-style buildings when you go to a little bit further in the city. Gdansk dates back to different historical periods. It is a city that has witnessed it too.

I am now finishing my sightseeing in Gdansk.. You might think that this city is an atmospheric place anyway, and all its streets and avenues are special in general, so I say go everywhere

The Other Side of the Golden Gate and the Starting Point of the Modern City, The Shopping Center Just Opposite the Long Market , Trams and Wide Streets A Little Beyond the Shrin You Can See These Types of Buildings Now Some Gdansk Travel Tips!
