Where and What to Eat in Zanzibar? Eating and Drinking Recommendations
For us Turks, one of the most important issues on a trip is the cuisine and restaurants of that country.. In fact, we often visit historical places between meals.. Before my trip to Zanzibar, an island of Tanzania in Middle East Africa, what to eat in Zanzibar, Zanzibar’s I went by studying the most famous restaurants, famous Zanzibar dishes. Obviously Zanzibar has many interesting restaurants, but Zanzibarian cuisine is not very rich.
As Zanzibar is a small island, the number of plants grown is limited anyway.. During my trip, we did not have the opportunity to encounter the famous Zanzibar dishes.. Zanzibar Eating Drinking Advice (Zanzibar Food)
Breakfast cultures are not much like us. If you can’t have breakfast without cheese and eggs like me, I recommend you take cheese, honey, etc. with you.. Not many options in grocery stores and markets. Their eggs are different from ours.. The yolk of the egg is not as yellow as ours.
While visiting Zanzibar, you will see that the islanders are not as sensitive to hygiene as we are.. That’s why I recommend you not to try uncooked food on fire.. Even if you say you will try, get Typhoid vaccine before you come.
You can see peddlers making barbecue in the streets towards evening.. They sell many different dishes, mainly seafood. In addition, although I have not tried it, sugarcane juice is prepared and sold in front of your eyes.
The fact that Tanzania is a Muslim country is an advantage especially for those who pay attention to halal food abroad.. “Is the meat halal?”, “I wonder if they made meat in the place where the pork was cooked?”
Where to Eat in Zanzibar?
Although Zanzibar food is not very famous, the island has many interesting restaurants.. It is possible to find various flavor stops for every pocket.. I have listed 10 places that caught my attention in terms of eating and drinking in Zanzibar.
The Rock
The photos of Zanzibar’s most famous restaurant, The Rock, are definitely you’ve seen it somewhere. A fisherman’s shelter built on a rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean was converted into a restaurant a few years ago.. Today, tourists from many parts of the world come to see this interesting restaurant and eat here.
You can reach this restaurant, located in the Michanwi district on the east coast of Zanzibar, by boat from the beach at high tide.. When the waters recede at low tide, The Rock can also be reached by walking from the beach.. The restaurant’s prices are a bit high compared to the Zanzibar average. Lukmaan Restaurant
Limited budget like me There is an artisan restaurant called Lukmaan in Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar.. Don’t mind what I call a shopkeeper’s restaurant, one of the most famous restaurants on the island.. A significant portion of its customers are tourists.. This is the best place to get an idea about Zanzibar food.. Many pilafs, juicy dishes and grilled varieties are available here.. Prices are quite reasonable.. For example, a pilaf that only 2 people can finish is 3000 Tanzanian Shillings (approximately 5 TL or 1.3 dollars)
I especially preferred grilled seafood.. You can get grilled octopus, shark or regular fish on a skewer.. One skewer cost about 3000 Shillings. This is a place where you can eat more safely in terms of hygiene.. The restaurant is located in Stone Town, near the Anglican Church and the Slave Market. If you ask anyone around that area, they’ll show you.
Amore Mio
Zanzibar food may not be for me, if you say you want some Turkish flavors, and you want a seaside, Amore Mio Turkish Italian you can try the restaurant. The owner of the restaurant located in the area of Park Hyatt Hotel is a Turkish. There are seafood and pizza varieties here.. They also make roasted cheddar pizza and lahmacun, although it’s not on the menu.. You can also drink Turkish tea and coffee here if you crave.
Amore mio is also very assertive about ice cream.. They make fruit ice cream with the tropical fruits of the island and salep brought from Turkey.. In terms of prices, it is a more expensive place than Lukmaan.. However, it is located in a very nice place in terms of location.
Forodhani Market
When it comes to Zanzibar food, the place where you will see many of them together is Forodhani Market or Forodhani Market.. This market is held every evening in the area just across the House of Wonders.. There are all kinds of food sellers in this market.. Grills on one side, donuts on the other…
In the evenings, this place turns into a center of attraction.. Honestly, I haven’t tested this place much for food because I’ve heard that when the grills are left, they’re reheated and resold the next day.. That’s why I didn’t want to take the risk. Prices are also slightly more expensive than Lukmaan.. However, it is a must visit place even if you don’t eat.
Babu Chai
Even though I didn’t eat at Forodhani Market, I liked to have a drink.. Especially in Babu Chai, ginger tea is a legend in my opinion.. The price of a small tea is 1000 shillings (approximately 1.5 TL) Although I am normally a black tea lover, after trying ginger tea here, I drank this tea all the time.. It was a much stronger tea than the ones I drank in Turkey.
Zanzibar is an island famous for its spices.. That’s why you should try the island’s spiced teas. Babu Chai in Forodhani Market is quite the right address in this regard.. Small tea is served in a cardboard cup, and large tea is served in a porcelain cup.. I preferred cardboard due to hygiene issues.
Swahili House Hotel
The center of Zanzibar, Stone Town, also known as Stone City, is a labyrinth.. It is not possible to understand the city when you are inside the labyrinth.. When you want to look at this labyrinth from above, there are a few very nice addresses in the city.. One of them is the terrace floor of Swahili House Hotel.. Here you can see the most beautiful panoramic views of Stone Town. In addition, this is one of the addresses to watch the most beautiful sunset in the city.
You do not need to stay here to go to the terrace of Swahili House Hotel.. You can come from outside and benefit from the bar on this floor of the hotel.. Moreover, you coincide with happy hour at sunset.. Of course, this happy hour does not apply when you buy coffee.. Prices are above the overall Zanzibar average. A Cafe Latte 4000 Tanzanian Shillings (Approximately 6.5 TL or 1.8 Dollars)
Zanzibar Coffee House
If you are one of those people who can’t do without coffee every day Zanzibar isn’t quite the place for you. There are no Starbucks vs coffee chains like that anywhere. However, there is a coffee shop in Stone Town that tastes like an oasis in the desert.. Zanzibar Coffee House is an address that manages to draw you in with the smell of coffee even as you pass through the door.
Coffee prices at Zanzibar Coffee House are above the city average.. 6 thousand shillings for a latte (Approximately 10 TL or 2.7 dollars) By the way, the place closes at 6 pm. Every weekday, the venue hosts a free coffee roasting show at half past 11.. This place also serves as a hotel.
6 Degrees South
One of the best places to have a drink while watching the sunset in Stone Town, Zanzibar. The terrace of 6 Degrees South is right next to the de Africa House Hotel.. This is an ideal place to have a drink while watching the sunset against the ocean view.
When you go during the sunset hours, you come across happy hour at 6 Degrees South.. Prices are not too high. Right next to it, Tatu, one of the most popular venues of Zanzibar nightlife, is located.
Darajani Market and Fish Market
Darajani market and its surroundings are one of the important points of the island in terms of eating and drinking.. This place is active during the day unlike Forodhani market. This is the market place you know. This is the right address for fruit and vegetable shopping.. There is a fish market right next to it.. If you can tolerate the smell here, I recommend you to enter the fish market.
The spice market is located at the back of the Darajani market.. Here, too, a wide variety of spices and tropical fruits are sold.. Prices are quite affordable. Of course, don’t forget to bargain.. As a result, prices for mzungu (white man) are always high on the island.
Jaws Corner
Jaws Corner, one of the meeting points of Stone Town. When I lost my way, I usually found this place on Googlemaps and found my house.. Jaws Corner is a kind of open-air cafe where people are constantly present, especially during daylight hours.. Here local people and mzungular are sitting together. Local coffee is sold. I couldn’t taste the coffee because the person selling the coffee poured it from the same cup to everyone.. I’m a bit of a piper, unfortunately I can’t drink from someone else’s glass
Here on the benches, local uncles play a game similar to backgammon.. I obviously couldn’t see what the game was, but it wouldn’t be wrong if I say that this is the street version of our coffee shop, which you know. There were other places that attracted me as well.
Emerson Spice Hotel
While getting lost in the Stone Town labyrinth, I came across this hotel many times both for its architecture and its smell that attracts you from the very beginning. managed to get my attention. Frankly, I couldn’t visit because the prices were slightly above the average.. Spice tours are also organized inside.
Livingstone Beach Restaurant
This is a seaside restaurant near the harbor where fishing boats depart in Stone Town.. If you want to slather your feet on the sand and eat at a table on the beach overlooking the ocean, you can try this place.
Mercury’s Bar
Mercury’s Bar, named after Queen Band Soldier Freddy Mercury, who was born in Zanzibar, is located in Stone Town’s Mercury’s Bar. It is located just opposite the big tree next to the ferry port.. Here you can dine against the sea view.. There is also live music on Saturday evenings.

Things to do in Plomari
The so-called ‘old town’ in the center of the town, which is one of the oldest settlements on the island, is where you can witness typical Greek architecture.. Two-story, bay window, mostly wooden houses line the narrow streets.. It is essential to enjoy walking among the historical houses on quiet and calm streets without traffic noise and to breathe the atmosphere of the town.
There are many shops, shops and coffee houses around the big plane tree in the city square.. After wandering the streets, it is quite enjoyable to relax, have a drink and chat with the local people.
The beaches, each carrying the blue flag, which are chirpy in the summer season, are an unforgettable experience for those who love sea, sand and sun holidays.. Agios Isidoros Beach is shown among the few beaches not only in the region but also in Greece.

Get immersed in life by sitting in the cafes that stretch towards the beach and the port.
There are 3 different museums in the town that appeal to enthusiasts. Varvayianni Ouzo Museum, Lomari Isidoros Arvanitis Ouzo Museum and Soap Museum are must-sees to see the most important production tools for this town.. The hospitality and warm welcome at the museums make people happy.

Plomari is 42 km from the center of the island of Lesvos.. Due to the nature of the road, this journey takes approximately 50 minutes by private vehicle.. In order to go to this town from Turkey, it is necessary to take a ferry from Ayvalık to Lesbos.. After the ferry ride that takes 1 hour and 15 minutes, the port of Lesbos is reached.. There is a municipal bus service between Mytilene and Plomari that runs 3-4 times a day.. However, without the hassle of the city bus, choose a pleasant journey by renting a car and being included in the nature view.
Plomari with its unspoiled nature, friendly people, historical structures, magnificent beaches, ouzo, olive oil and soap >, one of the most beautiful corners of Lesbos. Those planning a trip to Mytilene should spend a few days in this beautiful town.
After our tiring and intense trip to India, we got out of the chaos and arrived in Nepal, where we said “oh there is a world”. Someone who goes to work or wanders around the streets completes his prayer by ringing the bell in the tiny temple on the street and applying the red paint inside the temple to his forehead.. A person who has prayed has red paint on his forehead. When you see this, know that that person has prayed. Let’s not forget that the main element of flower worship. During the worship we witnessed in temples, they offer flowers to their gods and light candles.
We were surprised that the fruits we ate did not taste salty, although agriculture is the livelihood of the country.. Especially when we say that the banana is disgusting that we have not eaten in our life, we say it’s like straw, we ate a banana that tasted just like that.. We got our Nepal visa quickly and very easily at the airport for 25 USD (15 days). They came to meet us because our hotel had a pick-up service.. We arrived at our hotel without the need to take a taxi.

But first, let’s list the must-haves and some information you need to know for those who are considering coming to Nepal:
Take a mask. Too much air pollution in the city. If you don’t want to walk in dust and smoke, take your mask.

Those who come to Nepal by plane should get a free map from the airport.. The map you will get from the hotels is not very descriptive and guiding.
Visit the bookstores in the Thamel area. There is a wide variety of books, magazines and many products for anyone interested in books, not just travelers.
Buy LP-Nepal. If not, you can find it in Thamel.. But those who do not want to buy definitely need a guide in the temple areas.. But for me, the temples and the figures carved on the temple do not mean anything, if you only want to take pictures of them, you do not even need a guide.. They charge up to 100 rs from tourists, don’t give more than 25 rs. For your information! Locals don’t like discounts in Kathmandu.

My market is at one end of the street, the Golden Gate is at the riverside end there is also the Green Door…

You can often see these gates in the old city centre.. It is generally built like 2-3 storey private buildings and has arch-shaped openings from the inside and you enter and exit the square and the street from there.. Especially the Golden Gate is another beautiful one, don’t miss it…

And these gates are rain shields for me! Because I’m stuck at the door leading to the river from Long Market, it’s raining heavily

Gdansk’s Islands
I set foot on one of Gdansk’s islands from the Green Bridge in front of the Green Gate. I say island, but it is a part of the city I say so only because rivers run on both sides.
This is also a very touristic area, but it is under construction for now, that catches my attention the most. lots of mobile sweet sellers I see around. Poland’s sugary pastry desserts are in vain, definitely try it!

I want to have a snack and rest now. Şso that I can have a little view so that I can both fill my stomach and watch the city
Eat a great boutique pancake shop called “Pan Kejk” on the Long Market I came. There is everything to eat and drink here, and you won’t believe the prices. I got a great sandwich, salad and unlimited coffee for only 15-20 zloty.

Time to enjoy sunny Gdansk. I pass the Golden Gate at the upper end of the Long Market and open to the modern part of the city.
There is a triumphal arch-like gate and another historical building behind the Golden Gate.. You have now reached the wide streets of Gdansk here.

A Little Out of the City, The Environment Is Different
There is a huge modern shopping mall right across the street. It is also possible to see socialist-style buildings when you go to a little bit further in the city. Gdansk dates back to different historical periods. It is a city that has witnessed it too.
I am now finishing my sightseeing in Gdansk.. You might think that this city is an atmospheric place anyway, and all its streets and avenues are special in general, so I say go everywhere

So Many Places to Visit in Poland!
It was a trip that met my expectations. I had high expectations when I came to Gdansk and it didn’t make any profit. It’s a very different place, especially from Warsaw.. Let’s see, I’ll have trips to Krakow and Katowice next month…
